Never Without Hope

SHERRILL, NY

Mission

At Emma's Hope, we provide financial support to approved families for travel and food expenses as well as unexpected or miscellaneous bills. The heartbreaking loss of a child is enough of a weight on a family in and of itself. Because of that, we help cover bereavement expenses to lighten some of the financial burdens for families who have recently lost a child. Emma's Hope, Inc. exists to be an aide and liaison for the families of children who have been diagnosed with severe illnesses and cancers living in the state of New York. Emma's Hope, Inc. will provide services, support, and activities throughout the year for the benefit, encouragement, and assistance of the aforementioned families.

What we aim to solve New!

Through Emma’s Hope, we are able to use what our family went through to directly help other families going through similar circumstances. We know that when your child is going through treatment for a life-threatening illness or cancer, they are your only focus. The treatment plan for a child often demands constant travel and extended hospital stays. Parents often go weeks and months without working - some even losing their jobs - in order to care for their child. The heartbreaking loss of a child is enough of a weight on a family in and of itself.

Our goal at Emma's Hope is to tangibly share the love, hope, and peace that we have received from Jesus with families who are currently experiencing or who have experienced the difficult challenges that come with having a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

At Emma's Hope, we provide financial support to approved families for travel and food expenses as well as unexpected or miscellaneous bills. We also help cover bereavement expenses to lighten some of the financial burdens for families who have recently lost a child. We also deliver Mom Boxes, which consist of makeup items, skin care products, a devotional, and a food gift card. The purpose of these boxes is to provide moms in particular with products that will help them feel more like themselves as they take care of their children. We fundraise throughout the year, and we have a Christmas campaign that is fully driven by donations via individuals and businesses, that gives $100 VISA gift cards to the families of children who are currently undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses at Golisano Children's Hospital at Upstate in Syracuse, NY. We have a golf event in the summer to further raise awareness and funds for our projects throughout the year.

Our unique knowledge of the needs of parents as they are caring for their children who are battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses gives us insight into existing needs and gaps that need to be filled. Additionally, we have developed strong connections with hospital administration and caregivers at our target location to provide us with access, updates, and connecting us with families. We also have the privilege of partnering with several national brands who provide us with some products for our mom boxes: IT Cosmetics, Lay'n'Go, MyPillow, Philosophy, and Jesus Calling.

We have a few benchmarks for measuring success. First and foremost, is if we are financially solvent and sustainable. Second, making sure we profitable as it relates to funds and donations versus program expenses. Thirdly, making sure we are able to meet the needs of the families at Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, NY by not having to turn away families who would meet the criteria to be served and helped by Emma's Hope.

We have successfully given 72, $100 VISA gift cards to 72 different families during Christmas, 2017. We have delivered over 15 mom boxes to mothers at the hospital. We have held our first golf event in 2018, where we raised $15,000 for our programs. We have given two families bereavement assistance.

Organizational Demographics

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
