The Rescue Crew was created specially to help fill a need in the state of Minnesota and local Twin Cities metro area communities for urgent shelter/impound animals facing imminent risk of euthanasia without rescue support.

We envision a day where every adoptable pet has the opportunity of finding a home. A world where pets are no longer mistreated, abused or abandoned. We work tirelessly in hopes of achieving this mission by visiting local shelters and meeting animals in need every week, networking animals in need to our foster base through electronic and social media outlets, and try to find appropriate and proper placement for these animals in need to reduce the shelter population of try to eliminate the need of unnecessary euthanasia due to lack of space, for medical reasons, or behavior concerns that are difficult to address in a stressful shelter environment.

We focus on the most urgent companion animals in need - those facing imminent risk of euthanasia without rescue support sitting in local shelters and impounds in the Twin Cities metro area and more broadly the state of Minnesota and beyond. Secondarily, we focus on helping animals from tribal land/communities (Indian Reservations) in neighboring states where opportunities for housing and needed veterinary care of companion animals is poor or non-existent.

Because of this, many of our companion animals taken into rescue are considered "at risk" of euthanasia and are oftentimes overlooked by other organizations because of medical or behavior needs or because of size and color of their coat. We work to rescue and rehome these cats and dogs by finding them safe new foster caregiver homes while working to find them loving forever families.

The Rescue Crew offers Basic Obedience Training Classes for both our foster and adopted dogs. We strive to create better canine citizens with our dogs which creates a more successful adoption placement and creates Rescue Dog Ambassadors to help others understand that a rescue dog isn't a broken dog but rather a great dog given a second chance at life. Through our free classes, as well as our one-on-one sessions offered by certified trainers, we've pro-actively worked towards getting ahead of the homeless pet population by providing foster caregivers and recent adoptive families with solutions to behavior problems that might otherwise cause an owner to surrender to rescue or shelter. By providing free classes, or covering the cost of additional training needs outside of basic obedience, it provides an owner and dog a way to communicate with one another and gives the dog an easy way to bring joy to their beloved owner and peace within the home through excellent house manners.

Help Minnesota to become/be considered a "no-kill" state by helping local shelter/impound animals in need thereby reducing euthanasia rates and increasing live release rates at these locations we work with.

1). Expansion of Foster Caregiver Program: Expanding our foster caregiver program, which today includes over 300 approved foster homes.
Adopting new ways of thinking, which includes implementation of an "Adopters Welcome" philosophy whereby we strive to reduce barriers to adoption.
2). Incorporating a "Save Where We Serve" philosophy.
3). Positive Relationships: Harnessing the creativity, passion & resources of our fosters, volunteers and partnerships through collaboration, open & honest communication and teamwork.
4). Education: Striving to educate the communities in which we serve about responsible pet ownership, the pet overpopulation problem and the importance of spay/neuter.
5). Appropriate & Proper Placement: We strive to understand as much about each animal in our care in terms of temperament, personality and needs as we know about our foster and adoptive homes to best ensure successful permanent placement of the animals in our care.

1). Demonstrate a High Level of Compassion & Respect: We strive to demonstrate a high level of compassion and respect both for the companion animals and communities we serve as well as the individuals and organizations we interact with.
We provide rescue, shelter, food and needed veterinary care for animals.
2). We are Positive Influencers: We demonstrate rescue stewardship and advocacy and lead and influence responsibly and respectfully by participating in the Advisory Board of Minneapolis Animal Care & Control and the Minnesota Partnership for Animal Welfare coalition.
3). Partnerships: We have established partnerships with over 15 veterinary clinics statewide to expand our reach in helping companion animals in need across the state of Minnesota, beyond just the Twin Cities metro area location.
4). Foster Caregiver Program: We have a current foster base of over 300 approved foster caregiver homes and are continually working to expand this base while recruiting volunteers to support these foster homes.

Since opening our doors on October 1, 2017, we have taken in 1060 homeless, abandoned, abused or otherwise neglected companion animals in need (as of May 17,2020). Of these 1060 animals, over 60% came from the state of Minnesota (primarily local shelters & impounds in the Twin Cities metro area), 30-35% came from tribal lands on neighboring states and a small percentage came from one high intake/high kill shelter out of state we help where we can to open space in order to reduce unnecessary euthanasia. Of these, 1031 have successfully been adopted into loving forever homes. Others remain with us through hospice care (if medically necessary) or our foster caregiver program until we successfully find them a new home.
