What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 20% of businesses fail in their first year. Fifty percent of small businesses fail in their fifth year. The numbers are even more staggering in metropolitan statistical areas where the need is the greatest. Add to this the link between the lack of continued professional development and the quality of the services provided / quantity of products sold and you will find a tremendous economic development challenge within our urban communities.

Not since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, has a crisis threatened to envelop so much of our economy so rapidly. For many owner/operators and contractors, COVID-19 has changed everything. Within days of the announcement of the Stay at Home order, RED Worldwide, Inc. applied for and received 2 grants for its VIRTUALOSITY Program to help small businesses and contractors transition to their new virtual landscapes successfully.

By offering VIRTUAL STRATEGY GRANTS through our VIRTUALOSITY Program to those employers and contractors affected by COVID-19, RED was able to assist with software, training, and onboarding to ensure companies could continue their operations.

In late March, new research released from the Economic Policy Institute revealed that nearly three-fourths of workers age 65 and older—or over 5 million older workers—are currently unable to telecommute. The report further revealed that over two-thirds of 55- to 64-year-olds could not telework either; thus representing another 15 million workers.

Our research was extensive and our findings representated that while policymakers are working to mitigate the damage from workplace exposure to the coronavirus afflicting older and other highly vulnerable people with suitable unemployment insurance and paid leave, little to no options exist to teach older workers to work from home. And even fewer programs were available to provide suitable loaner equipment for the training and transition process.

In light of these new findings, the RED team has expanded its VIRTUALOSITY Program to create a pilot designed to provide specialized training, software and loaner equipment to the technologically unskilled adult age 50 and above.
Our Virtual Business Navigators will work one-on-one and with teams to help older adult workers gain the VIRTUALOSITY they need to ensure they stabilize and move forward.

Working virtually requires a special structure, it’s important for people to understand how to thrive in this type of workplace. A solid foundation of training, task management and tools is key. We call Best Practices for the Virtual Work environment "VIRTUALOSITY". We believe that VIRTUALOSITY can be taught and once it has been established, a person and their teams can be just as successful and sometimes even moreso virtually than they are in their physical offices. There are verifiable studies that point to remote workers being happier and more efficient. Virtual teams are an investment that can pay off through a 13.5% increase in efficiency according to National Bureau of Economic Research.

Here are the 8 Key Outcomes we will Achieve:

Better Software Tools and Efficiency.
Improved Virtual Etiquette & Culture.
Better Structure and Time Management.
Improved Trust and Reliability.
Non-Distracting Virtual Environments.
Increase in Response Times.
Better Management of the Virtual Budget.

In an effort to keep our families safe, schooling at home, has become the rule, rather than the exception during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has provided us a new vantage on the value education and ensuring that students are fully supported no matter where their education is happening. Before the pandemic, more than 2 million K-12 children in the United States were engaged in learning from home online. However our current conditions require that we have as much support as available to provide families with whatever they need to effectively ensure that their students have the best possible educational experience available.

Currently REAL Academy Prep by "RED", Provides a virtual academy and knowledge reinforcement program.

We provide two basic instructional models - fully independent self paced (asynchronous) courses that are teacher-guided and a semester-based virtual learning solution (synchronous) that are completely teacher-facilitated to supplement the academic programs provided in the local school district.

The R.E.A.L. Academy is a Virtual Academy where learning is REALITY-BASED and STUDENT-CENTERED!
REAL, an acronym for Reality-based Education through Application Learning is continuously pursuiing the Accreditation process to ensure that its programs are formally evaluated according to nationally and regionally acceptable criteria and standards. Additionally, we promote the TASK Teaching Methodology and total teacher accountability.

The fundamentals of REAL include:

*Teaching students the application of concepts in an everyday life, experiential way.

*Concepts are correlated to their life application.

*Promotion of the use of innovation and technology as life management and continuous learning tools.

*Promotion of the integration of competencies and overarching concepts.
Promotion of research integration and project modules as a part of the learning process.

*Encouragement of the use of cooperation rather than competition through cooperative online learning groups.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
