Behavioral Health Detoxification Inpatient Treatment

Hushabye Nursery is a 12-bed residential infant detox medical facility providing an innovative, trauma-informed care model to treat Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and provide continuous support for families experiencing Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Newborn babies with NAS require a complex and painful withdrawal from the opioids they were exposed to in the womb. It is the only facility of its kind in the country that includes wrap-around family services. Hushabye Nursery’s mission is to embrace substance-exposed infants and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives. Its vision is to reduce disparities in access to health services to improve the health and well-being of newborns who are suffering from opioid withdrawal, and their families who are suffering from opioid addiction. Family engagement and health equity are its two guiding principles. We are available to families statewide.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Hushabye Nursery aims to address the critical issue of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) by providing compassionate, evidence-based care to substance-exposed babies and their families. Our mission is to reduce disparities in access to health services and improve the health and well-being of newborns suffering from opioid withdrawal, along with their caregivers who are battling opioid and substance use disorders.

In a state where an infant is born withdrawing from opioids every 12 hours, Hushabye Nursery stands as a beacon of hope. Our 12-bed facility specializes in best-practice NAS care, offering innovative wraparound support services to keep families healthy and together. Founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal NICU nurse practitioner, our organization has served over 800 babies and families since opening in November 2020.

At Hushabye Nursery, we provide a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members, and babies can receive integrative care and therapeutic support from conception through childhood. Our programs include prenatal and postpartum support groups, parenting classes, inpatient nursery services, DCS coaching, and outpatient therapies, ensuring that each child has the opportunity for the best possible life outcomes.

By offering a trauma-informed model of care, Hushabye Nursery promotes prosocial bonding critical for recovery, empowering families to stay together and change their lives. Our family-centered treatment model engages healthcare and social service providers to deliver coordinated services, ultimately ensuring that infants are discharged to empowered, loving caregivers.

Through our groundbreaking approach, we aim to increase access to quality care, enhance physical and social health outcomes for babies with NAS, and reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. Hushabye Nursery's commitment to providing family-based services sets us apart, as we strive to create a resilience-building environment that fosters healing and family cohesion.

In a landscape where only a few facilities offer infant detox centers like Hushabye, our organization stands out for its comprehensive and holistic approach to supporting families impacted by substance use and trauma. By offering programming and classes in a trauma-informed care environment, we build trust, instill hope, and work towards preventing child removal or facilitating reunification through tailored case plans and support services.

Hushabye Nursery's vision is to transform the lives of substance-exposed babies and their families, creating a brighter future for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Hushabye Nursery's strategies for achieving its mission include providing compassionate, evidence-based care for substance-exposed babies and their caregivers. By specializing in Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) care, offering wraparound support services, and implementing a trauma-informed model of care, Hushabye Nursery aims to keep families healthy and together. Through family-centered treatment, prevention and intervention strategies, and enhancing physical and social health outcomes, Hushabye Nursery is dedicated to reducing disparities in health services and improving the well-being of newborns and families affected by opioid withdrawal and substance use disorders.
