MLK Sack Lunch Program
A lot of Love and Kindness, in addition to a sandwich, chips, cookies, a fruit cup, a boiled egg, a banana, a drink packet, a 16 oz bottled water, a mint and/or candy, and information!
MLK Pet Program
Our homeless community usually have one or two furry friends to accompany them while they live on the streets. The pets also need food and water as well, so we provide pet kits to our community which consist of a gallon of dry pet food, canned wet food and other essential things to keep their "babies" happy!

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal as an organization is to foster an attitude of empowerment among our homeless and less fortunate brothers and sisters. By providing basic needs and services, we hope to help stabilize people people's situation, by offsetting the costs of those needs, which in turn lowers the stress levels. Less stress leads to more rational thoughts, leading to more rational decisions. By tamping down the levels of desperation, and raising the levels of hope through consistent and sustainable interaction, we are able to help our friends refocus, reassess, and reclaim their own situations. We also want to inspire others to invest in the well being of others, by getting involved in the process of finding solutions to the homeless epidemic. We can't end homelessness, but we can try to change the narrative surrounding it. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of mastering the "Art of Reciprocity", because it's a give and take type of situation, so we stress the importance of being clean, lawful, and accountable. It's a process that requires patience and action from all parties involved, but a process that we are committed to wholeheartedly! As
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In general we provide everyone we encounter with a sack lunch and access to resources, including toiletries, clothing, pet products, baby items, and much more. After getting that system firmly established, we have moved on to the next phase of our project, the MLK FRIENDS & FAMILY PROGRAM.
1.) Enrollment in this program requires basic information, including name, sex/gender, age, race (opt), military service (opt), and shoe and clothing sizes. by doing so, each enrolled individual receives a card. This card must be present to receive all of the extra items that come with joining the program, meaning one must take care of their card. It encourages an attitude of responsibility and inclusion. For instance, we have a sock program that we were able to establish with the help of our partnership with Bombas Socks. Basically, everyone gets a pair of socks each month, however, those involved in the sock program can get up to 3 new pair of socks, while still contributing to those in need through, our pay it forward format.
2.) The program will allow us to keep accurate data on the demographic make up of our recipients, which in turn will help us develop more partnerships that can focus on the specific needs of certain groups, such as our many homeless veterans. Keep in mind that this is based on comfort, because we certainly know that everyone isn't giving their real name. however, we let them know that if they want to receive certain help, then they must be willing to be fully forthcoming.
3.) By establishing memberships along with membership ID#'s, we are able to begin individual case files on individuals. again based on their comfort level, we take the information they share with us to investigate and find feasible solutions ti their situatons, an a case by case basis.
4.) The MLK FAMILY & FRIENDS PROGRAM is designed to truly filter out whose ready to commit to change, and those who are still dealing with issues that preclude them from making the next step. For that reason we will always provide the basics, as long as we are able to do so consistently and responsibly.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are able to carry out the Project and it's underlying programs, via a coordinated network of like yet varied organizations. We are currently partnered with Bombas Socks, Pits "R" Us, Project Blessing Bags, Another Chapter, and several groups that contribute intermittently.Outpaw Outreach, a pet friendly outreach organization, has become one with MLK, and is not a partner with us, but is a part of us. Our repeat "In Kind" donors also allow us to consistently provide our recipients with resources, ranging from A-Z, however we only take what's feasible and within or realm of capabilities, with regards to responsible distrtibution. In addition to We have built a team of 6 individuals, who are committed the growth of the organization. Our team is also our our core volunteer source, providing us with necessary man power, and resources, including need extra vehicles, and networking capabilities. Thanks to steady funding and the aforementioned partnerships , we can always meet the basic goal of providing lunches, toiletries, pet care, and resource navigation and outreach. The MLK FAMILY & FRIENDS PROGRAM allows us to effectively distribute all items, including food, goods, and information effectively and efficiently.
With that in mind, we are focusing on building up our fundraising mechanism to improve upon and expand the scope of our services and their capabilities, in addition to our established route, and the number of individuals we serve.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since our inception in October of 2017, we have served 12,870+ sack lunches, homemade meals, hot and cold cereal breakfasts, and family packages. We have established successful programs, including our Pet Program, Family Package Program, Sock Program, and our new MLK Family & Friends Program. Our goal is to continue to help those who want to help themselves, and those who unfortunately no longer can. in the next year, we look forward to locating, securing, and moving into a facility. in the meantime, we will continue to grow our programs, and build upon our wonderful relationships that we share with our brothers and sisters in need.
