The lack of sexuality education in the United States (and globally) is a leading cause in the spread of STIs, unwanted pregnancies, rap culture, domestic violence, abuse, and body image issues. We are trying to bridge the gap between the lack of knowledge/misinformation and a healthy understanding of human sexuality.

UN|HUSHED's goal is to positively affect our community one individual at a time by providing high quality and medically accurate education through classes, training, curricula, books, and materials.

UN|HUSHED is breaking through the social silence and stigma surrounding human sexuality by inviting people of all ages to engage in self-reflection, conversation, and dialogue. We bring medically accurate and up-to-date information to the communities we work with in a shame free environment.

Our organization currently employees two individuals and contracts with with seven. This team possesses skills in (and not limited to) educational psychology, pedagogy, curricula writing, editing, authoring, training, web design, medical illustrations, finance, and activism. Through outreach via classes, training, curricula, books, keynotes, workshops, consultation, and various other methods we educate people of all ages in regards to human sexuality. This covers not only what physical characteristics you and other may possess, but also dives into identity, relationships, communication, consent, and numerous other valuable topics. Topics that are crucial and yet often left out of all other educational content.

While this is not an easy cut and dry answer, there are numerous ways in which we can judge our success. On a very fundamental level we can judge our success based on reviews and feedback from youth, parents, educators, and other persons we work with directly. On a much broader level we hope to one day judge our impact based on a decline in negative statics around pregnancy, STIs, rape, and domestic violence.

Our Exec Dir has provided comprehensive sexuality education to youth in Austin, TX for over 10 yrs. Our org has now published UN|HUSHED the Middle School curriculum based on those years of educating youth and is in the process of finalizing the High School version. Next year we hope to complete 2 more curriculum for the birth to 5 age group as well as k-5th grade. We have written the first in a series called An Introduction to Sexuality Education: A Handbook for Mental Health Practitioners. This handbook is designed to help people in the mental health field have a deeper understanding of human sexuality in order to better help their clients. The next installment of that series is under way in conjunction with The University of Texas at Austin and is being designed to educate adults working within the foster care system. Finally we are looking for funding to write a modification guide for our existing curriculum design for people with IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities).
