Growing Our Future Together
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Literacy First Charter Schools is a place where every child is known, accepted, valued, and inspired to discover more. We equip K-8 grade students with the necessary reading, writing, and speaking skills to communicate with clarity and precision in today’s academically-driven world. Our credentialed professionals are committed to the educational success of our children, and believe in impacting each life through the power of words.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
LITERACY FIRST CHARTER SCHOOLS
The Patriot Legacy Education Foundation wishes to build a strong and diverse portfolio of support that is sufficient to fund the growth plans of Literacy First Charter Schools for the future.
This includes:
Resources that would support all programs
Areas of critical needs
Expansion of programs and facilities
Support of our students in college matriculation
Our current campaign is focused on raising money to purchase vans that will help us transport students to events. This includes athletes, clubs, groups, and classes going to events like games, robotics competitions, speeches, community events, field trips, and so much more!

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Patriot Legacy Education Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization where 100% of contributions go directly to LFCS programs. Funding supports the implementation of programs above state funding mandates including areas of critical need, expansion of programs and facilities and the support of our students in college matriculation. All donations are tax deductible.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
WHAT MAKES LFCS DIFFERENT
We are a Kindergarten through 12th grade school with 4 campuses.
At LFCS, every student is known. Each student is reflective of the local community…we are so glad to have students of different races, religions, and abilities! We believe this gives our students a rich environment to grow!
Literacy First is an independently run PUBLIC school.
There are over 1,200 charter schools in California which serve about 630,000 students.
We have been in business for 18 years! Our charter has been successfully authorized 3 times through the San Diego County Board of Education!
Our organization has been found to be fiscally sound with above average reserve funds.
The reputation of LFCS in the community is exemplary! A winning ticket in the lottery entitles a student to attend Literacy First with a remaining waitlist consistently above 600 students.
45% of our students are English Language Learners.*
50% of our students receive free and reduced lunch.*
69% of our students met or exceeded the state standards for Mathematics.*
75% of our students met or exceeded the state standards for Language Arts.*
We have a 100% graduation rate, with all of our students going on to higher education or post high school job training.
* Data collected November 2016, and varies with enrollment.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Big News!! Thanks to all of our friends and family who participated and gave so generously at the All American Blast gala, we have reached our goal and can purchase our second van! In all, the event raised about $10,000 that will directly impact our student community.
Aside from that, the event itself was a huge success. The evening was full of entertainment and fun with raffles, games, and lots of dancing along with live music from the Remembrance Tribute Band. Dinner was provided by Bekker’s Catering with BBQ chicken, potato salad, and apple pie. You can’t get much more American than that!
Along with the silent auctions and raffle drawings, two games held special interest for the audience. The first was a game of heads or tails. As the last man standing, Jared Svendsen won an overnight golf package to Sycuan Resort. However, the big winner of the night was Maureen Degan. She went home with a diamond bracelet!
Thanks again to all who joined us in this special evening. We are looking forward to many more!
