THE MAP of the Grand Canyons of La Jolla

THE MAP® of the Grand Canyons of La Jolla is a magnificent 2,400 sq. ft. LithoMosaic tile installation which showcases the offshore ecology of La Jolla in vibrant detail, bringing learning to life. Highlights include two Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), wave refraction and bathymetry of the underwater region, extraordinary features including the remains of a Kumeyaay village located at the tip of La Jolla Canyon, and over 100 marine species, each created life-sized in mosaic tile.

Embedded links to media will provide endless educational opportunities for school children, community members, and millions of annual visitors to explore the ocean offshore using interactive, identification-based learning.

THE MAP® is a community effort, jointly spearheaded by the local non-profits, Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans and Friends of La Jolla Shores, that will promote an understanding of our ocean ecosystems and encourage citizens of all ages to become active stewards.
