Mission
The origin of the word “Oyate,” meaning “people,” is derived from the Dakota language. The mission of the Oyate Group is to serve “the people.” We are a 501(c)3 dedicated to alleviating poverty through a three-prong strategy: first is to educate and inform, the second is to provide resources and services, and the last is to create sustainable and holistic structures to empower our underdeveloped communities all across New York City.

Our programs

Healthcare
Oyate Group aims to address the healthcare disparities and lack of access to care that negatively impact many New Yorkers. To support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative secured over $5M in funding to support Bronx-based medical organizations, acquire supplies, provide adequate staffing, purchase tents, transition existing facilities into intensive care units, and launch a vaccine initiative. Oyate, through our Bronx Rising Initiative, financially supports clinics in the Bronx, vaccinates New Yorkers in public housing, on the street, in schools, at faith-based institutions and more, and fights disinformation through door-to-door outreach. The organization's efforts have led to tens of thousands of New Yorkers receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
