Our programs

Welcome Program
We connect volunteer teams with refugee and immigrant households to accompany newcomers for their first year in the United States. As part of this program, we collectively go on three community outings to experience culture and the wonderful things that St. Joseph County, Indiana has to offer. In addition, we advocate when there are structural barriers preventing newcomers from being fully integrated into the community, and we offer educational support through ESL tutoring and themed workshops.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We are aiming to welcome newcomers to our community in a way that keeps them from being isolated. This includes relationships, advocacy, and education. We want each newcomer to feel that they belong in our community and that they are able to thrive.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy is to match newcomers with local volunteers, who will act as community guides and friends. We also address structural issues and barriers that prevent newcomers from fully integrating into the community, such as discrepancies in healthcare or language accessibility. Finally we provide cultural education to newcomers and anti-racism education to volunteers to ensure safety and equity. We also provide education in language proficiency, workforce skills, financial literacy, health, and more.
