American Legion Dirigo Boys State

The purpose of Boys State is to provide Maine high school juniors with the opportunity to participate in a program that supplements their high school courses in government and its functions. In this program, young men role-play as they learn to campaign for local, county and state offices and then organize and carry out the functions of the state government.

The main purpose of the High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.

An on-going programs that provides assistance to Homeless Veterans in the State of Maine.

A program, which was established in 1991 to raise funds to be able to assist veterans in need that have exhausted all other alternatives. A Trust fund has been established in hopes to generate enough interest to work with. Donations go to State Headquarters and must be earmarked for immediate use or Trust.

An ongoing program that provides funds to be used at the Togus VA Center for the comfort of the patients. Funds are used for such things as canteen books, Christmas party, Christmas gifts, pizza parties, ice cream parties, beano, barbecues, etc.

A youth minded activity where teams are supported by an American Legion Post and proceed to compete at the State and National level.
