What we aim to solve
The Real Organic Project is a farmer-led movement created to distinguish soil-grown and pasture-raised products under USDA organic. In response to the lack of enforcement of some vital USDA Organic standards to protect soil health and animal welfare, organic farmers are rallying together to fight to protect the integrity of the organic label.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Add-On Certification Program
Real Organic Project's certification program operates as an add-on label to USDA certified organic. This means that we only certify farms that are already certified organic as a baseline. Real Organic certification verifies that farms grow their plants in healthy, living soil and raise their animals humanely and on pasture. Real Organic certification helps farmers and consumers differentiate farms that are growing their animals and crops to not only the letter, but also the spirit, of the certified organic standards.
Real Organic Project Symposium
The Real Organic Project Symposium is an annual interactive virtual series of talks with more than 50 prominent organic farmers, scientists, climate activists, and food system advocates. The symposium is an educational collaboration bringing together farmers and eaters who are building a saner agriculture for a better future.

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Real Organic Project exists to take back the word “Organic” from industrial profiteers.
We do this by:
* Identifying, organizing and promoting Real Organic farmers.
* Educating eaters and connecting them to Real Organic farmers.
* Pressuring the USDA to enforce the organic rules with integrity and transparency.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Real Organic Projects' strategies to take back the word Organic include:
* Real Organic certification and label verifying organic farms that foster soil health and animal welfare.
* An annual Real Organic Project Symposium connecting organic farmers, food system advocates and the public.
* A weekly newsletter and podcast series educating and organizing farmers and eaters in the movement.
* Advocacy and organizing to pressure USDA and corporations when organic greenwashing is exposed.
