What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Since the US Army established the Special Forces Underwater Operations School in Key West, Florida in the 1960s, nearly every class has made a plaque to commemorate their time there. Over time the plaques have become a historical artifact of a very elite sub-community within an elite community. 50 years on, the plaques are under threat from the ravages of time, sun, and salty air. We want to help preserve the plaques and tell the stories of the many heroes depicted on them. The plaques were just the beginning however. The more we learned, the more we realized there is a deep and varied body of history that should be preserved in a dedicated museum. Our ultimate goal is to build that museum, the Combat Diver Museum to tell the amazing stories of the men on those plaques.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

-Preserve the SFUWO class plaques
-Build the Combat Diver Museum to display the history of the Combat Diver community and its connection to US history

We will work with the US Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School to direct programming toward our objectives. We first intend to build the credibility of the Combat Diver Foundation both with the command and the community; conduct fundraising; and direct programming toward preservation of the plaques and ultimately construction and operation of the Combat Diver Museum.

We have an Events and Media Staff, and a Virtual Combat Diver Museum which are the first steps toward fundraising and historical preservation.

We have established our organization, the mechanisms for fundraising, and an online presence to get the word out. We have a Board of Directors and Board of Advisors.
