Rescuing At Risk Youth In Eastern Europe: Mission 823 exists to relieve the suffering of vulnerable children in all at-risk categories. Our chief target is to provide loving families that are safe, stable and permanent for children who have been deprived of these opportunities. Mission 823 engages governments, local authorities, national NGO’s, churches and international non-profits with likeminded passion to be an advocate for the voiceless. We work tirelessly to bring awareness, develop policy, implement strategies, train leaders, build brick and mortar facilities and identify resources to provide sustainable and duplicatable systems for these forgotten children.

Children in Eastern Europe are suffering from the effects of poverty, war and fatherlessness and are vulnerable to exploitation by opportunists and human traffickers. These children are found in multiple risk categories including orphans/orphanages, refugees displaced by the war with Russia in Ukraine, poverty-stricken families, human trafficking targets and victims, abused and neglected children and homeless/street children. Lack of essential educational, work and financial opportunities compounded by extreme corruption and slow reform exacerbates the crisis. Low levels of awareness of the general public makes it difficult to identify and connect resources that can make a lasting impact. Practically nonexistent government support places the burden for reform on NGO's and Non-Profit organizations.

Family Homes For Children In Ukraine

State-run institutional orphanages and boarding schools for abused, abandoned, neglected and orphaned children were created in crisis response to disintegrating families during the Soviet era in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Shattered by conflict, economic depression, persecutions and resulting desperation, families were destroyed by alcohol and drugs, criminal activity, domestic violence, incarceration and suicide.

The proposed solution, massive warehouses for children, rapidly deteriorated. These crumbling facilities were severely understaffed, underfunded and barely maintained.
Frustrated workers and unsupervised children soon slipped into a hopeless abyss, hidden from the view of the rest of the world. These are the forgotten children.

We believe that children were created by God to be raised in healthy homes with loving families. Our three-pronged approach to restoring these forgotten children is to:

1. Build trusting relationships with children in crisis and begin to understand their personal suffering.

2. Create Family Type homes where trained, licensed and certified parents bring healing to traumatized children. Then we are able to lovingly and patiently restore them to physical, spiritual and emotional health through adoption and guardianship.

3. Provide a higher level of education that is critical for these children to excel and find their greatest potential to compete in the marketplace.

These homes are filling quickly and there is a constant need to build new facilities and train new house parents. Abused, neglected and orphaned children have been hidden away in institutions or huddling on the street far too long. Partner with us to help expand our capabilities by creating more homes with loving families where these children can find hope again!

Our short term mission trips are designed to provide real ministry, accomplish measurable goals and build long-term relationships in the communities we serve.

We intentionally design our partner relationships to be highly engaged, completely aware and integral to ongoing ministry. In other words, we need you and can't do this without you.

Mission trips take many forms, depending on the needs of the field coupled with the stage of your journey. Our partners join us from all stages of life and experience with various goals for their service.

MINISTRY TRIPS are direct service to the children and communities of the field you are visiting. Youth camps, medical missions, English clubs, humanitarian relief, community outreach and specialized training are some examples of the types of teams you may be joining.

CONSTRUCTION TRIPS are exactly what they sound like. You'll be joining a mult-national construction team to help us accelerate progress and minimize labor costs for one of our ongoing building projects.

OVERVIEW TRIPS are an introduction to our work at multiple locations, with micro-service, to help you get a feel for where God is leading you to serve. There will be ministry opportunity combined with a total immersion cultural experience and exposure to the everyday life of a missionary.

Our Mission Trips are Affordable
We trim our costs to balance value, safety, common sense and comfort while considering contingency plans. Trips are planned well in advance to give you ample time for fundraising.

Our Mission Trips are Turn-Key
Our job is logistics, organization, planning and coordination on the field. Your job involves fundraising, prayer and ministry preparation. You won't have to worry about any of the details on a foreign field - we will handle that!

Our Mission Trips are Insured
All travelers will be insured for health, life and personal belongings. This is mandatory and we will issue the policy.

Our Mission Trips are Family Friendly
Bring your kids and involve the whole family in learning how to serve God and others. Minor children 16-18 years old will be required to have a travel waiver completed with signatures of all parents and legal guardians. It is recommended to have a copy of the birth certificates and social security card for border/customs personnel.

Mission 823 Is Actively Involved In Three Major Aspects Of Reduction And Elimination Of Human Trafficking In Eastern Europe:

PREVENTION: Identifying at-risk children and teens and providing opportunities for self-improvement and inclusion in family units. Providing awareness and resource materials to children and their communities.

RESCUE: Working in cooperation with local and international task forces and law enforcement, facilitating the rescue of victims held in modern-day slavery.

RESTORATION: Providing physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological healing in order to stabilize these young people and prepare them for real world re-entry.

The majority of known human trafficking in Eastern Europe is covert, export/source related, well financed and associated with organized crime and related industries.

Because of its covert nature, hidden from the general public, human trafficking is difficult to find, track and prosecute.

Traditional sting operations like those used in the Caribbean and SE Asia are virtually useless in this region.

Although it is difficult to quantify, there are potentially 300,000+ human trafficking victims annually.

Law Enforcement and Human Trafficking Task Forces have had some training, but are understaffed and underfunded. These teams need additional specialized training, especially in the areas of Financial Investigation, Cyber-tracking and Identification.

Youth Camps Have Always Been A Place Where Lifelong Friends And Memories Are Made.
Goofy games, team competitions, new adventures, life and relationship skills, challenging ideas, and Bible principles all made for a priceless experience that kept us coming back year after year.

But for some kids, the opportunity to attend youth camp could literally be the one connection that saves their lives. Children that are traumatized by abuse, neglect, war, homelessness or fatherlessness need a place to heal. These kids have had their childhoods stolen from them and need to learn how to be kids again.

The only way for them to be able to do this is to create an environment of safety and trust and take them out of their stressful environments.

Our youth camps in Ukraine are designed to provide all of the crazy, fun and awesome adventure of any typical youth camp. The difference is that we strive to draw the children out of a shell of self-defense and into productive relationships with others, especially adults that are equipped to help them.

Specialized group activities, breakout sessions, exercises, games and field trips are all created by highly trained professionals to allow the children to let their guard down, to be kids again and begin to understand love and trust for possibly the first time in their lives. It typically takes 3-4 days before we see the children completely relax and begin to fully enjoy themselves.

Long-term relationships and follow-up are critical to their success, so our teams and partner local churches continue to provide outreach and support for these kids in the communities where they live. We consistently engage volunteers from the United States and Europe, sometimes creating multi-cultural dynamics that are priceless.

Mission 823 strives to identify at-risk children, assess their underlying needs, formulate tailor-made strategies for each child and achieve sustainable progress toward achieving the highest level of potential possible in each life. Creation of opportunity for independence and autonomy in a healthy and safe environment is our ultimate goal.

Community social outreach, humanitarian assistance and specialized youth camps allow us the opportunity to build lasting relationships with children at risk and their communities. Licensed and certified professional counselors provide tools and resources that initiate the healing process for traumatized children. Construction and operation of family type homes with qualified adoptive/guardian parents provide a stable, secure environment for children to heal, stabilize and begin steps toward independence and upward mobility. Connection with tutors who help the children catch up and exceed grade level and then access to higher level education is critical to freedom. Creation of business opportunities create independence from Western support and sustainable living for young adults. Facilitating cross-cultural experiences with multi-national volunteer teams enriches the experience and broadens the sense of possibilities.

We have over 20 years of experience working in the region, speak the language and understand the culture. Our U.S. based offices provide ongoing support in the form of supervision, counsel and financial resources from our extensive donor network. Our national Directors are native to and citizens of the countries in which they serve. Their paid staff and volunteer teams under their direction are nationals as well. Our volunteer networks span 3 continents and have regular contact and engagement with the programs on the field. Communication is open and frequent and enabled by technology. High level access and invitations exist in the form of growing relationships with local churches, social services and the federal government.

The humanitarian needs of thousands of children have been met, thousands have found a connection point for healing resources annually and many children have been placed in permanent family homes. Youth camps and social outreach clubs have been established. Humanitarian distribution systems have been created. Brick and mortar family homes have been built and are currently operating. Human Trafficking task forces and working groups are in place and active.

Expansion of our family homes and youth camp facilities is our greatest need and priority focus for the near future.
