What we aim to solve
Cofounders Rithvik Musuku and Zahir Abdul founded ASW as they were appalled by what was essentially a discouraging of science in many developing regions worldwide. In some countries, science funding is extremely low and science can be frowned upon unless it has a short term, practical impact. On the surface, it may seem like science has no place in regions that are not wealthy. It is commonly argued that these regions should focus on using their money for more practical things. However, there are many long term science problems such as climate change and antibiotic resistance and the world needs as many scientists as it can get to solve such problems. For instance, many developing regions are constantly ravaged by natural disasters. If scientists in such regions received sufficient funding, they may be able to find creative, innovative solutions to reduce the destruction caused by such events.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Library Outreach
With this initiative, our goal is to provide exemplary scientific books, journals, and other research materials to those in need, no matter how old they are or how advanced their knowledge of sciences is.
We have partnered with various libraries in regions in need around the world to establish library locations that have a plethora of scientific reading materials available for perusal.
Equipment Donation
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with this challenge. Equipment Donation is something that we take very seriously, and our team is working each and every day to locate and fill the needs of those that are underprivileged in their access to and availability of scientific equipment and facilities.
Contact us to learn more about our commitment to this cause or even bring to light a specific group that could be helped by our organization.
The Disruptors
The Disruptors (formerly FringeFM) is the podcast about today, tomorrow and the future of humanity. It brings today’s top minds to discuss the future they are creating. From genetic engineering to manned space travel, AI and automation to factory farming, education and healthcare, the purpose of this podcast is to not only predict the future, but to create it.
The Disruptors was started to bring together scientists, startups, innovators and thought leaders to have thoughtful discussions on the direction of our species. We believe we engineer the future we envision and by working together as one, we can build a better world.
The Disruptors, although not directly recorded and created by Advancing Science Worldwide's leadership, is a program overseen by and sponsored by Advancing Science Worldwide.
Young Scientist Empowerment
It has been well documented that there is a significant inequality between students from high-income families and students from low-income families as it pertains to science education: High performers in advanced science courses and competitions are usually considerably wealthier than the students that do not place so high.
We aim to alleviate this inequality in our region by providing free scientific resources (such as books and equipment) as well as tutoring to low-income students in various cities in the State of Arizona.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In many regions around the world, science education does not receive sufficient funding or attention. Advancing Science Worldwide aims to alleviate this problem to the point that everyone around the world has the ability to study science, such that they can become scientists if they so desire.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
For those that are underprivileged in their availability of scientific knowledge and materials, Advancing Science Worldwide does as much as possible to provide equipment, books, journals, facilities, and other materials that serve a great use in scientific fields among all ages and skill levels. The organization does this through its main four programs: Library Outreach, Equipment Donation, The Disruptors, and Young Scientist Empowerment.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Although Advancing Science Worldwide is fairly new, it does have a steady stream of revenue to fund its programs. The organization aims to accomplish its mission through its four main programs: Library Outreach, Equipment Donation, The Disruptors, and Young Scientist Empowerment.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As of January 2019, the organization's Library Outreach program is estimated to have reached tens of thousands of people in developing regions. As of January 2019, The Disruptors podcast had 251,000 listens/downloads. Since those metrics were last taken in January 2019, those numbers are expected to be higher today, because of all the episodes the podcast has added since then and the books the Library Outreach program has supplied to new libraries since then.
