HERS Leadership Institute

A Leadership Development Program for Women in Higher Ed
The HERS Leadership Institute is a transformational, leadership development program for women in higher education, founded to fill leadership pipelines across the United States with dynamic women, each capable of ushering their respective institutions into a more inclusive and equitable future.

Participants are asked to share their vision of leadership and what they hope to contribute to their respective institutions and are then challenged to develop the skills to actualize their professional vision. As a non-competitive space, participants are also encouraged to champion the growth of other participants. Alumnae of the HERS Leadership Institute (HLI) emerge better-skilled and more confident in leading with their unique voice, providing a much-needed infusion of bold, new leadership to their respective institutions.

Develop the Mindset and Practice Needed for Inclusive Leadership.
An inclusive leader holds themselves accountable for supporting others’ identities, foster understanding, respect, and dignity and works to build a sense of mutual responsibility for and commitment to cultivating an inclusive, supportive, and impactful experience for all. The journey towards becoming a more inclusive leader is unique to each individual and requires honest reflection, daily practice, and a mindset infused into your leadership identity.

The Inclusive Leadership Series explores what it means to be an inclusive leader through an understanding of allyship, sponsorship, and advocacy while celebrating voices and perspectives that are frequently sidelined. Each series explores different skills, policies, and practices that are expected of inclusive leaders in academia today.

Workshop for Women Pursuing Leadership Roles. Hosted by HERS and co-facilitated by Academic Search, Inc., Next Stages Next Steps was created to help women secure leadership positions in higher education. The latest research by CUPA shows that women hold less than 30% of executive positions at the nation’s colleges and universities.1 Next Stages Next Steps is our answer to that equity gap.

Our career workshop is designed to equip women applying to leadership positions with the insight, skills, and practice needed to navigate the often challenging academic search process. To date, we have helped nearly 60% of our participants secure senior leadership roles,2 with more on the cusp. Join us for our next workshop in January 2022 and get ready to achieve your own career ambitions.

Combat Burnout and the Unique Leadership Challenges Faced by Women Through Practical and Action-Oriented Solutions
Through five 90-minute synchronous sessions, followed by a sixth “check-in” session to review results of changes made, this online career coaching workshop will help participants identify and combat the challenges that women face in their personal and professional lives that are threatening their health, well-being, relationships, effectiveness as leaders, and overall life satisfaction. This program is designed to give you space and support to reflect on those challenges, find new ways of addressing them, and create a path forward that goes beyond typical “self-care tips” and builds deeper reserves of resilience.

Take a Data-Based Approach to Your Career Development.
Self-awareness is a key component to effective leadership and a cornerstone of emotional intelligence. The HERS 360 Leadership Assessment provides women in higher education with a data-rich assessment of their leadership capabilities, as well as one-on-one coaching to fully utilize the results of their 360 feedback and put action plans in place.

Each individual assessment operates within the context of its cohort’s specific role or discipline in higher education and integrates personalized solutions to fit your institution type and organizational culture. The curriculum is rooted in 50+ years of Lominger Voices®1 analytics and research spanning 69 million professional assessments across 67 competencies. We are thus able to take a big-data approach to defining leadership success for any role, discipline focus, and institution type.
