Bay City News Foundation serves the San Francisco Bay Area and is backed by charitable donations from contributors who care about local news, a free press, democratic values and an informed citizenry. We target geographic and topical news deserts. We collaborate with other media. We experiment with technology. We work with journalism schools to train the next generation of reporters.

Journalism Internships
Internships are crucial for giving young and emerging journalists the practical experience they need to learn skills, try out the craft and build the basics of what could become a lifelong career. It can be tough to get a foot in the door, however, and even tougher to find an internship that pays while they learn how to cover breaking news, interview sources, write hard news stories, find information and understand the fundamentals of journalistic practice. Interns at Bay City News Foundation cover fires, crime, City Hall, protests, environmental news, transportation issues, features and more as news breaks around the 9-county Bay Area, all with guidance from experienced editors. They also do social media related to building the branding and distribution of our free, consumer-facing local news site: LocalNewsMatters.org.
