What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Brightwork Ensemble
Brightwork Sextet is a classical new music sextet based in Los Angeles, California. A flexible and fearless group of world-class musicians, Brightwork consists of piano, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, percussion (an instrumentation which is often called “Pierrot + percussion,” and which is to modern chamber music what the string quartet was to earlier centuries), and champions the best of the music that’s being written today, while continuing to play the classics of “new” music from the last hundred years.
We play the music we love, whether this is one of our favorite masterworks of the 20th century, or the latest dazzling score from a composer whose music we just discovered. What the listener can expect at a Brightwork concert–at the very least–is exciting, emotionally engaging music presented in state-of-the-art performances. Brightwork seeks to draw the audience into the creative process.
Tuesdays @ Monk Space
Showcasing the very best performers and artists anywhere, Tuesdays @ Monk Space presents cutting-edge music, and adventurous interdisciplinary arts programming in an interactive and inspiring environment. A onetime speakeasy, Monk Space is now home to one of the most dynamic and engaged music and arts communities in Los Angeles.
Tuesdays @ Monk Space is curated by Grammy® nominated pianist Aron Kallay, who is assisted by a dedicated team of new music geeks.
Project Beacon
This is the education outreach arm of Brightwork Newmusic. We do residencies with Universities and youth orchestras. Our newest program, the High School Composer Initiative, is an annual six-month program that identifies and mentors young musicians who are interested in learning how to compose for live instruments.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to perform, present, and commission contemporary classical music, to create audience experiences that are rich and engaging, and to mentor the next generation of musicians.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We program contemporary music and collaborate with LA-based musicians to curate our monthly concert series, Tuesdays @ Monk Space. Our in-house ensemble, Brightwork Ensemble performs the best music of our current time and recent past. For our Project Beacon initiatives we partner with local colleges, universities, and youth orchestras while continuing to self-produce our annual High School Composer Initiative.
