What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Lutheran Early Response Team Training
In L.E.R.T. training, we will address the nature of disasters and explore what our response should be to disasters as members of the LCMS. We will explore how Christ has shown mercy to us, and how we can show our community that same Christ-like mercy. The goal is to prepare you to be better prepared when a disaster strikes and to help you know how to respond within your congregations, and in word and deed, within the greater communities.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Lutheran Disaster Care, Inc. is a Ministry of Presence
Lutherans join together to provide mercy to those in need whether near or far, regardless of race, creed, or religion.
Lutheran accompaniment allows us to work through the means of grace that God provides for His ministry of mercy, working through the Church.
The deep human needs and psychological scars left after a disaster require care beyond the restoration of physical needs. Putting lives back together requires real care, hope, and love.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
LDC provides trained volunteers, the ability to do mass feedings, and supply disaster buckets, kitchen kits, and other supplies. We are developing a case management system to coordinate our work teams at a disaster site. Our member organizations are experienced in managing disaster response and running a work camp as part of a recovery effort. We are working to put together programs to assist congregations with long-term recovery. We focus on sharing God’s grace in all our endeavors and provide devotional materials and/or Bibles to those we assist.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Volunteers are the key to our organization's success. We continue to provide certified Trainers to train new volunteers with Lutheran Early Response Team Training (LERT) and LERT Chainsaw Training. We provide trained teams to respond to disaster clean-up. We engage member churches to provide Flood Buckets, Kitchen Kits, Children's backpacks with supplies, and other items useful to help
those impacted by disaster
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2022 we have responded to 5 disasters with our Chainsaw and cleanup teams, We have provided Flood Buckets, Kitchen Kits, and Backpacks to disaster victims and have provided $6000 in gift cards to the victims of Hurricane Ian. We will continue to fundraise, and apply for grants to continue supporting our activities
