Mission

Doctor Lifeline recognizes the impact of physician suicide. Reports of 400 U.S. physician suicides per year probably underestimate the actual occurrence rate. These tragic deaths deprive about 1 million patients of their doctor each year. Physicians commit suicide at a rate twice that of the general population. Doctors are more likely to kill themselves than almost any other profession, including highly stressful occupations such as active duty military. We intend to identify and correct the factors contributing to the high rate of physician suicide.
