What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Providing Multimedia Products for Civic Education
Our main activity is the provision of civic education materials to adults. Our materials address the issues of trust and mistrust many American citizens feel today, many of which are similar to those the framers confronted in the Constitutional Convention. Thus, we begin with basic principles, rather than repackaging traditional civic education content. We illustrate our points with real-world experiences drawn from history and current-events here in the U.S. and around the world. Moreover, in contrast to the traditional approach to civics, which is structured mainly around descriptions of events and institutions, CFFAD is teaching more about what is required for representative democracy to work well in our republic and why – including the application to today’s real-time challenges. The focus, therefore, shifts from what and when to how (incentives for good leadership and good citizenship embedded in our Constitution, laws, and institutions) and why (people will not sustain a system they do not trust to serve them well). In this way, our content speaks more directly to the frustrations felt by many Americans today while also offering elements of a path forward. Other organizations do not offer this kind of approach in their materials.
