Oshie's Tail Wagon Rescue & Transport

We don't give dogs a 2nd chance, we give humanity a 2nd chance to get it right!

Mission

Oshie's TaiI Wagon is a 100% volunteer, foster-based rescue (no "central" facility) that focuses on neglected & abandoned "urgent" dogs about to be destroyed in kill-shelters. We work at the shelter level, are not breed specific, and tend to focus on overlooked pups who typicaIly have just hours, sometimes minutes Ieft to Iive.

What we aim to solve

1.5 million adoptable pets are destroyed every year in America's municipal shelters simply for a lack of adoptions (HSUS, 2017). Many good dogs are dumped on the streets and into the shelters and end up needing to be "disposed of" at the shelters.

Charting Impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?

How will they know if they are making progress?

What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

We are trying to help this situation by getting dogs out of harm's way - the ones often overlooked because of fear or a disease/skin condition - get them vetting, and then get them homes.

We strive to make a direct impact by actually saving dogs from the kill-shelters and finding them homes. We also help other rescues and shelters through volunteerism. Finally, we advocate and educate others about the situation giving them hope, encouragement, and a way to help within their own communities.

We are 100% volunteer - no one receives compensation, thus all monies go to the programs at hand and only passion for the cause drives us. We have many talented and experienced volunteers representing many sectors of the cause - volunteering, transporting, fund-raising, fostering, etc.

We measure our success by the photos of rescued pups, often "before & after", with their new loving families.

We are a small rescue but has saved over 30 dogs from being destroyed at the shelter. This may not be enough to save the world, but it was the world to 30 of them.

Organizational Demographics

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
