What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

After 20 years of living in Oregon, the closest we could find to authentic Peruvian food, traditions and culture came from our own home: Mom's cooking, Dad's cajon, and Grandma's stories. We have created this organization in hopes to share the happiness our culture has brought us throughout the years.

Our programs

Matices Criollos

A homage in music and dance to the Peruvian Creole heritage featuring Freddy Paredes, with Peruvian Dancers, and great Musicians.

PCF hosts a Christmas event every year, completely free of charge. This is our favorite event of the year, as we are able to share the holiday spirit with the community in a caring and welcoming environment. We are aware that Christmas isn’t the best time of the year for many, and we work to bring cheer to those who may not come from the most joyful homes, and to provide a space for families who may not be able to pay for their yearly photos with Santa (we do this, completely free of charge).

Population(s) Served

Peruvian Cultural Festival has helped the community by creating Peruvian dance lessons at a very low-cost, and even free for those who demonstrate financial hardship. With these lessons, adults and children not only learn traditional Peruvian dances, but also had a safe space for group recreation. In this way, we aid diversity by sharing cultural experiences with those who have never experienced it before, but also connected other children with their culture of origin.

Population(s) Served

PCF hosts extremely low-cost gastronomy events twice a year as well. It is very difficult to find Peruvian food in the area, and the few restaurants can be pricey. We provide these events for those who want to try Peruvian food for the first time, as well as those who haven’t been able to enjoy it since they migrated to the United States.

Population(s) Served

PCF hosts the Grand Peruvian Cultural Festival every year in celebration of Peruvian Independence Day (July 28th)! This is a unique and wonderful opportunity to not only celebrate the cultural heritage of the Peruvian community in the Portland area, but to bring them closer together for greater presence here.

Population(s) Served

PCF has created an Emergency Aid Program in response to COVID-19. We have been giving out food baskets, masks, and hygienic products to families and/or those most vulnerable to the virus. We have provided donations and resources to those in need in the community who are unable to leave their home due to the outbreak, and we have donated face masks to other organizations as well as provided video tutorials on our social media on how to make them at home.

Population(s) Served

This is a family event that consists of Musicians, AfroPeruvian Dances, the Peruvian Cajòn and of course delicious Peruvian Food and Desserts to celebrate the Day of the Peruvian Creole Song

Population(s) Served

In partnership with the City of Beaverton, Peruvian Cultural Festival hosted the Travel to Peru event as part of Welcoming Week 2020. A mini Peruvian gathering with art exhibitions, traditional dances, food, and a Cajón Peruano (drum box) demonstration. National Welcoming Week is an annual series of events designed to bring together immigrants, refugees, and U.S.-born residents to raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone. The week’s activities celebrate the contributions of newcomers and provide opportunities to build cross-cultural relationships and understanding.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

In 2018, organized under the name "Peruvian Cultural Festival and Events" we started to offer annual events to the community and received a great response. Our mission now? To share Peruvian Culture through arts (dance/music/folklore/gastronomy), current events, history and geography, educating society and increasing diversity while aiding improvement and bring together those in local communities.

Peruvian Cultural Festival has helped the community by creating and hosting Peruvian events at a very low-cost, and even free for those who demonstrated a financial hardship. In this way, we aid diversity by sharing cultural experiences with those who have never experienced it before, but also connected other children with their culture of origin.

Each and every one of our staff works as volunteers in order to better our community. We are greatly dedicated to this organization and we strive to make everything we do available to everyone no matter their background. Our staff has been working hard to show our support to our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to do so.

Since our founding in 2018, we have been nationally recognized and endorsed by the Peru Brand (Marca Pais), and have also received support from multiple local organizations including the Oregon Cultural Trust, City of Beaverton, City of Hillsboro, Oregon Community Foundation, Reser Family Foundation, among others.
