Delmar Farm Es Inc

Where gentle horses give and get love

Mission

Our mission is to provide a home for life for our rescued farm animals and senior horses. With the use of these animals and horses we provide programs for children that educate and heal. We want to be able to impact the lives of animals and children in a positive responsible way by creating compassion between them. We believe that children need to understand what rescue means and animal responsibility and give them that opportunity to learn so that they can lead the way in the future to help animals. Animals need us as much as we need them.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The ongoing challenge of running an equine and farm animal sanctuary is the need for financial and physical help. The programs we run at the farm help to offset costs but it's never nearly enough to sustain the farm. The feed bills, and the care required for the animals grows each time a new animal is taken in and the upkeep on the farm is tremendous. We need repairs, maintenance and more help to care for the animals. We have barely enough volunteers to keep the farm maintained so the work primarily fails on me and it's so hard to keep up physically. We do not have grants coming in or larger donations that will ensure the cost to feed and care for the animals. It's worrisome.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Delmar Farm makes a commitment to every animal that we take in and to all of our seniors that they will live out their life here. We provide educational and healing programs with the use of our gentle animals for hundreds of children a year. Our goal is to continue with our programs to help and educate more children. We are working on expanding and opening up new programs that will provide an outlet for children struggling with isolation with changes due to Covid-19 and we are currently working on a program to help children who have suffered from trauma. We believe animals are incredibly healing. They have so much to offer since having been given a second chance at life here at the farm. Through every program we offer, we stress the importance of compassion for animals and respect and responsibility for them. Children need to learn while they are young so that they can carry that compassion into adulthood to help make changes to help animals in the future.

Our strategies to accomplish our goal is simple, make it happen through experience and interaction. The innocence of children when encountering animals is awesome and they light up with curiosity and wonder. The best way to learn is from in person experiences. Our programs enable children to be extremely interactive with our animals through touch, and learning skills around them. We stress the importance of safety always and teach children how to approach an animal in their habitats. The opportunity to allow the children to explore their compassion around the animals is very impacting in their lives.
Our strategy to keep the farm afloat is not as simple. It's an ongoing reach to try to bring more awareness to our farms needs. We are making connections to try to help us secure corporate partnerships. If we can obtain corporate partnerships/sponsorships that would help us so much!

Delmar Farm is set up so well to offer what we have to offer. The layout of the barn and the accessibility to our animals makes our programs run smoothly and safely. All of our animals have been given a second chance at life and all have proven to be extremely safe and gentle when around children which makes it possible to offer a variety of educational and healing programs. Being that we are situated on five acres, we have enough space to provide our animals with adequate room to roam and be in groups with other animals which ensures their happiness. Horses and farm animals are social beings and do much better with companionship.
We also have a wonderful group of adolescent volunteers that help us run our programs for children. It also gives them the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and earn community service hours that is required in school.
As far as our capabilities to obtain corporate sponsorships and partnerships, we can provide public recognition through social media (we have thousands of followers) expressing our gratitude. We are also able to provide gatherings and events for corporations here at the farm.
Our capabilities include having the space, having a good setup and having connections to help us achieve our goals.

Delmar Farm has built upon what it always offered since before becoming a nonprofit organization. Offering educational programs and expanding on what we offer is a constant accomplishment. Helping to impact the lives of hundreds of children each year is incredibly rewarding and inspires us to do more within our resources. Building out new areas on the farm to welcome more rescued animals is a huge accomplishment as well. We were very lucky to have a new fencing provided by a donation to fix and secure what was in dire need of repair a few months ago. Making improvements to the farm each time we obtain the funds has helped the well being of the horses. We have added dirt to areas of the farm that were constantly wet and muddy from the Florida rainy summer months and the horses suffered from the moisture. Now the paddocks are much drier thanks to fundraising to obtain the funds. We also obtained new fans for the animals through donations and are currently working with an electrician to upgrade the existing electric in the barn.
We also were sought out in March of 2020 by a corporation that wanted to partner with us to help promote a product they were launching and they made a substantial ($5000) donation to the farm.
