What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Sprint canoe and kayak is a small sport in the United States but quite large in many other countries. Our club hopes to grow the sport and create a supportive community of sprint paddling in Ventura that spreads to other areas over time.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our purpose is to:   1) Provide coaching and development of athletes in the sport of sprint canoe and kayak;  2) Promote national and international amateur sports competition within the sport;  3) Educate the community on the benefits of sprint canoe and kayak.  4) Conduct and participate in canoe and kayak racing events, including the US Sprint National Championships, World and Olympic team trials.

We will recruit youth by providing in-services at local middle schools, "open house" paddling days at the Ventura Harbor, and work with the local youth groups to provide classes to school age kids during breaks.

We will also recruit adult paddlers offering free "Beginner Paddler" classes on an open appointment basis most Saturdays with all equipment provided.

We have committed volunteers and spending very little of our own capital, have already amassed an inventory of 18 boats for use with the club; there is strong support from the greater paddling community for our club.

We have established a space at the Ventura Harbor for our trailer of boats and equipment that can be used as the "home" for the club.

We have established a 501(c)(3), created a Board of Directors, and trained coaches with the American Canoe Association and International Canoe Federation. Through several donations, we have also acquired enough boats to support a small club.

In 2021, we were given access to a new dock area at the Ventura Harbor which includes free parking. In time, we hope to be able to have a 45' shipping container there which will function as a boat house and protected storage for our equipment.
