What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Comprehensive Music Program for Young People
Comprehensive Music Program for Young People (CMPYP) is a structured Saturday curriculum for youth between the ages of 7 and 21 with an all-encompassing enrichment series. Young students use the specific tools – musically and socially—that they receive in the CMPYP to succeed personally and in their respective public and private schools. CMPYP graduates have developed skills through instruction using braille/large print music which places them on par with sighted colleagues, thereby enjoying success in wider school and college environments.
Program for Adults
Includes individual lessons, classes, ensembles, and performance experiences. The program operates on an academic year basis with two semesters and four weeks in the summer for special programming.
Accessible Music Technology Production, Teaching and Outreach
Providing alternate formats of music in Braille, customized large-print and audio files. Students learn to produce their own assignments, arrangements and compositions in Braille as well as receiving materials for class, lessons and ensembles in the appropriate format.
Outreach includes teacher training workshops and presentations. Two-day workshops held for the benefit of teachers, college students, and others who wish to learn more about Braille music code and the accessible music technology used to achieve production, composition, and arranging.
Annual Concert Series
The Annual Concert Series features FMDG Music School students in a wide-ranging spectrum of performances, master classes and guest artist performances. The signature performance of the year is the collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, displaying art, music, poetry and dance.
