ShowTown

aka ShowTown

Lakeville, CT

Mission

The mission of ShowTown is to bring affordable cultural, educational, and arts events to the rural northwest corner of CT and its surroundings, especially in the non-summer months when there is a scarcity of such offerings in the area. The ultimate aim is the enrich the community. Some events are produced outside of the area and others are locally developed. In order for events to be affordable to the general public, ticket prices are kept low, and therefore ticket sales usually do not cover all of the direct costs of an event. Accordingly, ShowTown counts on donations to make up the difference in covering the direct costs of most events. Some events are even free to the public despite actual direct costs. ShowTown’s staff and board directors are volunteers and take no compensation.

Organizational Demographics

In order to support nonprofits and gain valuable insight for the sector, GuideStar worked with D5—a five-year initiative to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy—in creating a questionnaire. This section is a voluntary questionnaire that empowers organizations to share information on the demographics of who works in and leads organizations. To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff. Any values displayed in this section are percentages of the total number of individuals in each category (e.g. 20% of all Board members for X organization are female).
