Mission

OUR MISSION is to prevent Trauma Related Loss by substance overdose or suicide by building resiliency and empowering our youth, families, and communities. We bring our vision and mission to life through an integrated approach with the arts and the outdoors, together, which serve as a tool for dialogue and engagement around what matters to the diverse residents of the communities we serve. We intertwine creative explorations in all our activities to encourage self- reflection, healthy communication and choices, safety supports and growth. We work to build a trauma-informed community that supports and empowers those impacted by trauma.

Trauma Regulation

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) refers to childhood trauma as “a pervasive and serious public health issue that requires a coordinated response”.

Skye's the Limit Foundation's Trauma Informed Community program is building this crucial coordinated response by training parents, teachers, staff of youth-serving organizations, and other adults nationwide to employ a trauma-informed approach when caring for youth impacted by trauma. The collective understanding of experts, researchers and direct service providers in the fields of child welfare, youth development and trauma is that expanding universal best practices of trauma-informed care is a crucial step in mitigating the effects of childhood trauma, substance overdose and suicide.

Building Relationships, Strengthening Resilience and Healing

We are an after school, culturally competent, trauma-informed substance abuse and suicide prevention program. The program enhances mental health support available to youth at risk of turning to drugs and/or alcohol and improves their critical life, social, job, and relationship skills.

Led by prevention specialists, art therapists, and professional artists trained in trauma-informed care, this unique year-round program offers much needed, out-of-school-time activities (including kayaking and collective art projects such as designing public murals) for at-risk students. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide safe space for youth to express themselves and communicate, and if needed, the opportunity and ability to ask for help from trusted adults and/or peers—the one thing Skye, our namesake, who died at age 19 of a trauma-related overdose, did not do.

Parents

To honor Skye's dream of becoming a nurse, Skye's the Limit Foundation offers a nationwide scholarship program designed to encourage and support aspiring nurses who are dedicated to helping others overcome their illnesses, challenges, and adversities.

Skye’s the Limit Foundation was founded to honor the life and legacy of Skye Gina Pilato, whose trauma-related passing at the age of 19 inspired our mission to prevent Trauma Related Loss by substance overdose or suicide by building resiliency and empowering our youth, families, and communities.

Skye wanted to be a nurse, and we are convinced she would have been an outstanding one.  She once said that she wanted to be a nurse to help others "so that no one would have to feel the pain I feel." She believed that everyone deserves to be loved and to prosper and grow, free of harm.
