Programs and results

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Global Arts' Music Program is addressing the lack of access to quality arts education for underserved youth in the Pico Union area of Los Angeles, a predominantly low-income, Latino community where most schools do not offer formal music programs. This absence of arts education contributes to broader inequities, including limited opportunities for personal development, leadership growth, and community engagement. Additionally, many students face social-emotional challenges linked to economic hardship and limited family resources, further impacting their ability to thrive academically and personally. By providing free, high-quality music education, the program aims to bridge this gap, offering students a safe and supportive environment where they can develop musical skills, build confidence, and foster essential life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and leadership.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

1.) Provide youth with high-quality music education throughout their childhood and teen years.
2.) Provide youth with avenues to develop essential life skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and creativity.

To provide high-quality music education, Global Arts employs several key strategies:

Comprehensive Curriculum: The program offers a structured progression from introductory music classes to advanced ensemble participation, ensuring students build strong foundational skills and continue to grow musically over time.

Experienced Teaching Artists: Skilled instructors with a background in both music education and youth development lead all classes, providing expert guidance while fostering a supportive and nurturing environment.

Equity and Accessibility: The program is entirely free, including instruments and materials, eliminating financial barriers and ensuring all students have equal access to quality education.

Leadership Development: Students who have been in the program for at least a year can participate in leadership training, mentoring younger peers, and developing critical life skills like responsibility and teamwork.

Community Engagement: Regular communication with families and bi-annual concerts strengthen the connection between students, families, and the broader community, creating a sense of belonging and shared achievement.

Continuous Evaluation and Improvement: The program collects feedback from students, families, and staff through surveys and performance assessments to continually refine and enhance the educational experience.
