Programs and results
What we aim to solve
JustWrite, Inc works to give student writers a voice. By elevating the art of creative writing into a competitive sport, teens are pushed to explore genre, voice, and audience.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
JustWrite Ohio
The JustWrite program is unique as it is multi-tiered. At its base, it is an educational program that assists schools within the platform of the written word. JustWrite directly supports state Learning Standards particularly in writing "narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.” In addition to this, there is an opportunity for state-wide networking and professional development.
The second tier of the program is done through a multi-genre creative interpretation and written expression competition; students compose narratives and compete against other teen writers across the state at both the Regional and State level.
The third tier of the program is a commitment to literacy. Good writers are readers. By offering students and their coaches the opportunities to engage with published authors students get an inside look at the life and experiences of published authors.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In the chaos of the world, during a post-pandemic era, it is important to help the youth of our community find ways to frame themselves into the narrative of the future. The social emotional growth of today’s youth needs to be addressed, and the very act of creative composition gives them a powerful tool to build their emotional intelligence and resilience.
The JustWrite program allows for that, as students process the world around them into creative narrative pieces, they learn to exalt human nature and challenge the world around them. Writing helps students from all walks of life, to assert a measure of control and organize their experiences.
At its base, the mission of JustWrite is to empower the often overlooked and underappreciated voices of students and aid them, through practice and experimentation, to tell their creative stories, thrive, and be heard.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To provide a interscholastic writing platform upon which students can be develop their own creative voices.
To provide opportunities for publication and celebration of student work
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The purpose of our organization is to provide an interscholastic writing competition. That has been accomplished, and not even the pandemic could stop this organization from holding tournaments for students. Currently, the program is growing, adding additional Regional tournaments in the 2023-24 season.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Currently, JustWrite, Inc has worked with over 50 school in Ohio, and the program has grown to Michigan.

- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
