Child Care

The YMCA is the leading child services provider in Denver. From infant care to leadership programs for teens, the YMCA cares for and nurtures children and gives them the guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to learn, lead, and become engaged citizens.

YMCA child care includes infant and toddler care, Before & After Care, “Child Watch” while YMCA members visit the facility, and summer day camps and enrichment programs.

Services are offered at five branches and at community centers and schools throughout Denver.

Population(s) Served
Families

The YMCA is a leader in aquatics instruction. From basic water safety to competitive swim teams sanctioned by USA Swimming, the Y promotes the safety and sport of swimming as a key component of a healthy lifestyle.

The Y offers swim lessons for infants to adults. We also lead programs that bring swim instruction to communities with limited resources and access to pools. Our programs are designed to promote safety and save lives. In the Y spirit, they are also welcoming and nurturing, instilling confidence and helping people develop a life-long love of swimming.

Y swim lessons and water safety programs are led at four Y branches and at community pools and facilities throughout Denver.

Population(s) Served
Adults

With our focus on healthy living, the YMCA leads a broad variety of health and fitness programs, including personal training and wellness, fitness classes, swimming instruction, and nutrition guidance.

The Y is also a resource for disease prevention, leading multiple programs geared toward people experiencing specific health challenges. Programs including CancerFit, Diabetes Prevention, and Parkinson’s Disease classes provide direction and support and help people manage symptoms, improve their health, and ultimately thrive.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
Policies and processes
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
