What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Currently, we are fund raising and working diligently to return to our regular education and performance programming after the COVID-19 pandemic has abated.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Kids Who Fly

The Kids Who Fly program was created specifically to benefit youth considered
"at-risk” by their parents, mentors, peers, supervisors, therapists and teachers.  Kids Who Fly was developed through work
with a licensed social worker, applying "adventure based therapies” models
(e.g. ropes courses) and was modified to use aerial apparatus and self-expression through movement. FFP’s specific curriculum for teaching youth at-risk works toward these goals for the youth:

1. Students will build self-esteem by setting
and achieving both individual and group goals.
2. Students will learn to trust
themselves and others.
3. Students will engage with positive challenge and learn healthy risk taking behaviors.
4. Students will experience a "natural
high.”
5. Students will get a "sneak” full body workout.
6. Students will practice creative problem solving skills.
7. Students will experience the art
positively in their lives.

Population(s) Served

2020 marks our 32nd year of operations. Prior to COVID, we were rehearsing for our newest collaboration with The Boulder Phil slated for March 21; and rehearsing for our new show "The Travelers" to have premiered at the Dairy Arts Center, April 24-26 including a fund raiser for the EXPAND program. The international Aerial Dance Festival 2020 is slated for July 27-August 7, 2020 but may be cancelled.
Our Student Company performance of The Wizard of Oz was slated for May 8 and 9, but was also cancelled. We hope to return to full programming by the end of the summer.

Population(s) Served

This is our 32nd year of offering education experiences. After opening the first dedicated Aerial Dance Studio in Jan. 2010, and then the 2nd studio in 2015, FFP has increased its educational offerings from 3 classes per week to 40 classes per week., serving 850 students per year.

We added a Student Company and Teen & Adult Intensive Program serving 50 youth with classes and performances.

We have trained 40+ Aerial Dancers through our Professional Training Program and cemented the relationship with the CU Dance Dept. Students in the Dance MFA program can pursue an "Aerial Emphasis” within our Professional Training program as part of their MFA. This is the first of its kind in the U.S.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Frequent Flyers® mission is to create and promote the magic of aerial dance through performance and education.
Our vision is to help people to see the world from a new perspective through experiencing the upside-down realm of aerial dance. We believe this expanded consciousness helps people to maximize their creative potential.

We bring to children through adults the strength and creativity inherent in aerial dance toward giving them hope and dreams for their future.

Community Programs
We're not only pioneering this incredible art form, we're serving the community with our outreach programs. In addition to free or low-cost discussion-demonstrations for school kids, we have classes specifically geared to youth in our community.

Kids Who Fly
Kids Who Fly builds healthy risk-taking behaviors, works constructively on self-esteem issues, and helps youth experience the unique joy of artistic expression through attending fabric and low-flying trapeze classes designed specifically for youth-at-risk. Students benefit from increased strength and confidence; better body image; broader and more appropriate concepts of physical beauty; reduced stress and improved coping through creative expression; improvement in brain function for kids with certain learning disabilities; and the flat-out delight and freedom of flying. Since the program's inception, we have served over 8,300 youth in our community.

General Community Classes
We serve over 850 student per year with our classes from beginner to advanced aerial dance on a variety of apparatus.

Student Company and Adult & Teen Intensive Programs:
We build community and creativity, along with strength and confidence. Students participate in classes and performances throughout the school year.

Professional Company
Frequent Flyers' professional company has performed for Cirque du Soleil, a variety of corporate clients, around the U.S. and in our home state of Colorado. We have collaborated with many other artists and art forms. Over 205,000 people have experienced a performance by our Professional Company since our inception. We provide free and reduced-cost tickets to all our performances.

We have two dedicated studios each approximately 1000 square feet with 21 foot ceilings. Our faculty are dedicated professional aerial dance teachers, most of whom also perform as professional aerial dancers. We offer over 40 classes to over 300 students (ranging in age from 2-70) each week. Each summer for two weeks we host the International Aerial Dance Festival, now in it's 22nd year, where over 170 students and faculty from around the world gather for intensive aerial dance workshops, training, and performances.

We've been serving our local community and beyond for 32 years and we are the leader in the art form of aerial dance around the globe.

Currently, we're striving to overcome the setbacks as a result of the global pandemic and the disruption of our services.
