COLORADO SPRINGS ALL BREED RESCUE

All Breed Rescue & Training is dedicated to improving the lives of all dogs.

Through our foster and adoption program, we aim to rescue at-risk dogs across Colorado who are unable to thrive in the shelter environment, rehabilitating them and finding them their forever homes. We only rescue dogs deemed unadoptable because of behavioral, medical, or training-related issues, and so the goals that we set for countable rescues and adoptions are much different than many other rescue organizations.

Through training and education services, we aim to promote relationship based methodologies that are grounded in the most current science and give owners the information and skills they need to be informed advocates for their dogs' well-being.

Through our behavior services, we aim to keep dogs in their homes and out of the shelter system, thereby decreasing relinquishment rates into shelters via the owner end.

For our foster and adoption goals, we set each dog up for success. When we rescue a dog, we make a commitment to them for life. We treat our rescues like our own dogs, getting to know them, helping them heal, and preparing them for happy, fulfilling lives. We provide them with either training or behavior modification and a home environment in which they feel safe. When they are ready and stable, they are put up for adoption in the hopes of finding their forever homes. The dogs in our charge will stay in foster care for as long as is required. Our longest foster to date has been over 5 years.

Because we love and believe in all our rescues, we work hard to ensure their long-term success. Before you adopt, we use an extremely thorough process to make sure you and your canine companion are a perfect fit. That means we fill you in on everything we know about the dog’s past and are open and honest about his or her ongoing needs. After adoption, we stay in touch long after you take your new best friend home. We provide ongoing email and phone support throughout the dog’s life and offer a comprehensive suite of training programs to help your relationship thrive.


For our training and education goals, we have become a leader in the community. We volunteer at schools across the city to promote dog safety, and use our 13,000 square foot facility to provide top notch services to the public. We also offer a free-of-charge student program for anyone wishing to learn more about dog rescue, dog training, and animal behaviorism.


In regards to the goals for our behavior services, along with offering private behavior consultations and private sessions to the general public, we provide Behavior Evaluations for Relinquishment Prevention to all owners who are considering relinquishing their family member to the humane society. We believe that dogs staying in their homes is almost always the best option, and offer the Relinquishment Prevention consults at no cost to either the owner or the humane society.

We also believe that prevention is the best defense, and offer Puppy Socialization classes until the age of 20 weeks for all puppies adopted from any Southern Colorado Animal Coalition members, including the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region; again, this these classes are provided at zero cost to either the owner or to to referring organization.

To increase our ability to accomplish these strategies, we work with multiple giving programs throughout the year, including both Indy Give! in Colorado Springs, and Colorado Gives throughout Colorado. We apply for grants to help fund our training and rescue programs, we implement a yearly mailer fundraising, encourage business partnerships for giving and percent nights, and foster an incredible relationship with our amazing community!

We have dedicated training, behavior, and adoption teams for handling a very large variety of canine issues, each headed by experts with decades of experience in their fields. For training, we offer one of the largest, in terms of sheer numbers as well as variety, training programs in the region. For behavior, our team is utilized by professional shelters across the region and private owners alike to diagnose and develop plans of action for myriad issues. For adoptions, our 98% adoption success rate proves that our positive reinforcement- and relationship-based training works.


Our connections within the community make us an invaluable resource for dog owners throughout the region and the state.

Our handful of full and part time staff want to help you be an advocate for your dog, and we will work to the best of our abilities to aid all owners reach the goals they set.

Our amazing volunteers help our adoption team with "home checks" for potential adopters, and enrich our facility foster dogs' lives by training with them at least 3 times a day, 365 days a year.

Our community lets us know what they want and need, and allows us the opportunity to supplement their lives with the services we are able to arrange to meet those needs.

We believe in our mission of rescue and education to our core, and have the skills and infrastructure to make our passions blossom.

From lowly beginnings as an out-of-basement rescue in 1994, we can't begin to describe how fortunate we feel to still be helping dogs!

More recently, we saw a huge upswing in our impact within the community in 2012 and 2013, when ABRT was able to provide our expertise and space to the community during the Waldo Canyon Fire and the Black Forest Fire natural disasters. For the weeks and months following these events, our training facility became a emergency rescue staging arena, and was used as a shelter for hundreds of animals while their families were being located.

Our amazing community continued to support us after this work, and in 2017, we were able to move into a new 13,000 square foot facility. This move provides us over twice the training space - including our Canine Lifestyle Center (CLC) - an adoption room for prospective new homes to meet their new family members, and a dedicated foster dog area with 8 kennels. The CLC is our 6,000 square foot community education center (aka, the big room) that allows us to hold educational seminars for our community, or can be used for classes with above average space requirements (Agility, Barnhunt, or regulation-size AKC Rally and Obedience, just to name a few!). All of these new amenities allow us to broaden our reach, help more animals within our community, and afford us an educational reach that far exceeds our walls.

In the coming years, we hope to continue growing our training and student programs, partner our behavior services more closely with local shelters, and start our foray into the world of digital content creation and dissemination. These goals, our past successes, our dogged resolve for a better life for all canines, and our unrelenting hopefulness will shepherd us forward, saving lives and promoting the methodologies that we feel (and that science has shown to) create that most powerful bond of relationship between us and our canine companions.
