What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

We are in the process of expanding, providing our services to more children in a variety of communities. Right now, most of our work (teaching, admin, grant writing, marketing, fundraising etc.) is performed by me - Barry Cogert. While I am able to find and train teachers our biggest problem is finding, with the means to afford, someone with non-profit office management experience.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Short term program goals (by Dec 2020):
-Create a one-year Artist in Residence program to train college grads or college students to eventually become permanent employees
-Add a program in Long Beach USD
-Add a program in Bellflower USD
-Increase enrollment in studio sessions from 6 bands to 10 bands per session

Long term program goals
-To become the largest jazz and music education program in the country

Operations:
-Hire a part time office manager
-To have the operational infrastructure necessary in order to grow.

Fundraising:
-To increase fundraising and sponsorships 3-fold by 2021
-To have a consistent revenue stream to support expansion
-To create a fundraising (and grant) committee

Marketing:
-To become a well known non-profit in California
-To create a social media committee by 2020
-To create and train Jazz Angels ambassadors (alumni and parents)
-To establish the Jazz Angels brand

After a board retreat, we created an org chart to divide up and organize a plan to achieve the goals above

Over the last 8 months we have had a major change in board leadership. Our new board has much more board and business experience. We have hired a part time admin staff and two other teachers to remove some of Barry's work load, allowing him to focus more on program growth and outreach.

In the last 8 months we have eliminated all past due IRS fines and late fees, all bills and payroll taxes are paid and current
We have been accepted as vendors to 3 more homeschool organizations
We are more prepared for our performances

What's next:
To have a compressive handbook for new Artist in Residence trainees and guest artists so all programming is consistent
To have a music booklet for students in school district programs
To have our strategic plan
To confirm the Jazz Angels brand
