PUPTOWN GAL
No dog left behind...
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
No dog left behind is our motto, and the reason Puptown Gal was created. Our goal is to maintain enough funds to not have to turn down a dog due to the financial aspect. We want to allow dogs a comfortable foster home to await their forever families, prevent them from going to shelters and help the "unadoptable" shelter dogs believe in themselves again. There is so much beauty and amazement that comes from someone believing in a dog that everyone else has given up on, and we pride ourselves on promising (and fulfilling!) them the brightest future,
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Spay & Neuter Advocacy
We promote the importance of spay & neuter for animals (dog-focused) due to the overpopulation of animals winding up in shelters. This also ties into the "adopt don't shop" mentality we stand for, bringing awareness to the public about how "shopping" for a dog encourages & financially supports breeding, which often plays a role in animal neglect due to dogs being overbred for consumer purposes.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We have a few goals. The biggest being "no dog left behind" and ensuring any dog that comes into the rescue finds the BEST home to fit their needs. But amongst fostering & adopting, we also believe spay & neuter education plays a huge role in today's current overpopulation issues. Many people don't see spay & neuter as a necessity, but it's not just about sterilization to prevent breeding (which is a HUGE issue in today's society). It's about the longevity and health of the dog, advocating so the public understands that spay & neuter plays a role in the dogs personality, temperament, internal & reproductive health. Lastly, we want the public to "change their minds" so to speak, on the negative stigma towards pitbulls. Pitbulls are a so often frowned upon as an aggressive breed, not a family dog and a dog that people should fear. WRONG. It's about how they're raised, it's about the human & environment behind the dog. Chihuahas & Pitbulls ARE CREATED EQUAL. With that said, we've seen many landlords & insurance companies turn down a pitbull in a home they manage, BUT they've not turned down an American Staffordshire terrier. That goes to show the negative persona behind such a loosely used term, "pitbull."
ALL dogs deserve a chance. ALL dogs deserve to have someone to believe in them. And we want to change the mind of society when it comes to fear of breeds, the importance of spay & neuter and how much emotional damage comes to a dog whos abandoned to a shelter.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are aiming to put on a variety of community events and attend education ones. Getting out into the community is the best way for us to share, spread & promote our message! For the spay & neuter aspect, we require ALL of our dogs get sterilized prior to adoption (unless they are a young puppy and they sign a contract for us to oversee the surgery). With no dog left behind, we are constantly seeking new fosters, to enable us to never say no. This also goes hand-in-hand with our fundraising events - because without funds, we can't pull. Lastly, pitbulls… The sweetest, biggest smiling paw friends ever. We are heavily involved with social media, showing ALL of our dogs interaction on video and in photos. We are also very hands-on with training, to ensure WE are the resource if someone in the community or an adopter has an issue. Our goal is for a dog to NEVER be surrendered to us, OR surrendered to a shelter - so we pride ourselves on being able to guide the community, provide training resources and help them to help their dog. Everyone involved in Puptown Gal is well-versed in training methods, such as leash walking, anxiety issues, food aggression, etc... So we believe by understanding dogs behaviors, we can truly help prevent surrendering!
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Puptown Gal's capabilities are endless! We may be small, but we are mighty. We've got a great, diverse team of fosters readily available & capable of handling almost every dog situation - from medical needs to training purposes. We've been able to take stray in off the street with minimal socialization history. We've been able to pull the scared "unadoptable" dogs from shelters who've been abused and help them build confidence again. We've been able to pull the medically-challenged dog requiring extensive orthopedic surgery and promising them the most mobile, adventurous life. ALL because we are an organization of dog-loving, determined people coming together for the greater good.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We've accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time. Since mid Sept. 2019, we've actively saved 71 dogs in six months. Of those 71, we've had 54 adopted. We've partnered with a local dog trainer with similar beliefs as us (help build a dog's confidence with positive reinforcement to prevent surrender) and have grown a great, reliable & knowledgeable team! We've pulled dogs from out of state on death row, we've pulled dogs internationally from the meat market trade, and we've pulled dogs from all over Florida needing a second chance. Even if it was one life, we made a difference to that ONE, But I'm so very proud of all Puptown has done, locally, nationally & internationally.
