What we aim to solve
At Forge, no one fights breast cancer alone. Whether you are a breast cancer patient, survivor, or someone who loves one, Forge is here to help. We know that being diagnosed with breast cancer in Alabama is especially hard. As one of only 11 states that has chosen not to expand Medicaid and with the closing of 7 rural hospitals (with 16 more on the brink), Alabamians are being forced to travel an average of 90 miles each way for chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, and to rely on nonprofits to provide them with access to cancer healthcare and resources. Forge does just that - we step into the void, providing individualized supportive services to anyone impacted by breast cancer in Alabama. No matter where you live in Alabama, Forge is there for you. And for your loved ones, too.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Forge Gardening
Forge's quarterly gardening classes offer survivors and co-survivors the opportunity to come together to incorporate survivorship topics and hands-on gardening application.
Coffee Conversations
Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center hosts a virtual "Coffee Conversation" on select Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am central time that features a 30-minute interview with a survivor, co-survivor, or medical professional on a topic, followed by a time for conversation with participants.
Hardship Fund
Launched in 2023, Forge created a Hardship Fund to help alleviate financial burdens for anyone in Alabama who is in or within one year of active breast cancer treatment. This program is used to help clients pay for essentials like utilities, rent or mortgage, child care, car repairs, etc. Forge understands a breast cancer diagnosis is financially taxing and seeks to alleviate some of our clients financial stress so they can focus on life-saving treatments. Forge caps its Hardship Fund at $1,000 per client per year.
