What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Marigold Farms Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to contribute regeneratively grown produce, herbal remedies, and seedlings which provide economical, health, and educational benefits to the local community.  There are a number of issues that face our community especially the health and wellbeing of all. We are looking to provide organic produce and seedlings to families, schools, and local nonprofits, but we want to encourage and support self-sufficient living.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Grow

The Grow program is focused on organic regenerative farming and growing edible native plants. This program grows organic seedlings for communities in Ventura, Los Angeles, Kern, and Santa Barbara counties and offers free workshops. Our workshops focus on turning your backyard, community garden, or school into a food forest. Again, these workshops are 100% free to homesteading groups, gardening clubs, nonprofits, and educational institutions (schools and libraries).

The Forage program is an outdoor nature inspired program for adults and youth to learn more about their native edible plants. This program goes over how to consciously forage and identify plants and their uses (culinary, medicinal, and more). This program also discusses how grounding, earthing, and forest bathing can benefit your health.
Our forage program occurs in Ventura, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara Counties. The program is free to all homesteading groups, garden clubs, nonprofits, and educational institutions (schools and libraries). If your group is interested in a free workshop, please click the link below to send a request form.

The Create program is our homesteading program. We offer workshops on the following: canning, fermenting, small animal husbandry, carpentry, natural dyes, zero waste household, alternative energy, emergency preparedness at home, and much more. This is our favorite program because we all learn how to use our creative skills as a community as well as encourage a self-sufficient lifestyle.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

In the past year, Marigold Farms has faced a major change when we had to move the farm to a new and permanent location. The new location meant a change in altitude, growing environment, and loss of animal access. However, we gained the beauty of the mountains, forests, and all the wondrous creatures that inhabit the area. After much consideration we decided to restructure ourselves to work with our surroundings and develop programs that include growing edible natives, foraging the local area, and being more creative with our homesteading.

We are hoping to provide online workshops, in person workshops, nature hikes, and more to the community.

Through the support of our community and foundation grants, we hope to provide all seedlings and produce free of charge to the local community. We also want to collaborate and work with local foragers, survival specialist, and homesteading enthusiasts to provide an educational environment and community that supports one another.

The most effective way of succeeding as a nonprofit is the strength and commitment of your leadership. Our leadership team is made of diverse and strong leaders with backgrounds in regenerative agriculture and nonprofit management. We hope that as our team grows we can add more to the development and organizational aspects of our nonprofit.

Currently, we are very well connected within the nonprofit and agricultural industries within Southern California. These connections are important as they bring together a supportive community that can help guide and advise us through our journey.

Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, Marigold Farms has supported schools, families, and local nonprofits with seedlings to grow healthy organic produce to the community.

Our Grow-A-Garden program has been our biggest success today and we want to continue to provide growing seedlings for the community. A greenhouse will allow us to grow five times more seedlings than we have in the past. This means we are able to support more communities. Our reach includes the following areas; North LA County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, San Luis Obispo County, and Kern County.
