Living Well in the Presence of Dying

Mission

We help people live well while dying. We have reopened our region's only residential end-of-life care facility under a new model of care. Goals: * Holistically serve the emotional, spiritual, medical and familial needs of residents. * Care for a diverse population inclusive of all ages, ethnicities, spiritual traditions, sexual orientations and financial means. Approximately 50% of residents will require financial support. * Become a center of learning, creativity, and wisdom about death and dying. Our unique cost-saving model provides a home away from home staffed 24/7 by nurses, with low resident-to-care provider ratios, and the highest capability of care. Collaboration with many health systems and hospice providers streamline administration and eliminate costs to operate.

Notes from the nonprofit

Hospice Care

To provide the most compassionate and innovative care to those at end of life, in a home-like setting. To shape and share what it means to live well in the presence of death.

6 Pillars of Friends of Hopewell House:
1. Addresses the growing need for residential hospice care
2. Is for everyone- diverse hospice patients and their loved ones.
3. Is sustained by collaborating with visiting hospice patients and their loved ones.
4. Will be the only dedicated hospice facility in Portland.
5. Requires $5 million to reopen.
6. Practices living well in the presence of dying, knowing that death of our loved ones and ourselves is natural, but can cause fear, sadness, and pain.
