Mission

Our mission is to encourage families to rethink how they discuss race and diversity. Using children's literature, featuring diverse characters, we will encourage, equip, and support families with young children (birth-8) to start and strengthen early conversations about race and diversity.

12-Week Family Learning Program

The 12-Week Family Learning Program starts each family on the journey with a selection of age appropriate books featuring diverse characters for their child(ren), followed by additional book recommendations as they move forward. Guides are included to support families in sharing stories, sparking discussions, and doing activities geared to each age and stage of development (0-8 years). Opportunities to meet with other parents and share experiences (in-person and/or virtual) are one of the most important parts of the program. Suggestions for resources to enhance adult learning about race and diversity issues are often welcome as well. After completion of the program families may retain an ongoing connection to the Starting With Stories community and all future resources and events.
