Mission

SANGO-Kenya strengthens food and nutrition security by providing training in sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and livelihoods. We primarily focus on women smallholder farmers, who comprise 70% of the smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Through these activities, we are empowering the women, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to improve their lives and the lives of their children.

Agriculture, Nutrition, and Livelihoods Training
• SANGO-Kenya trains smallholder farmers, mostly women, in environmentally sustainable agricultural practices that maximize crop yields, improve harvesting methods, and preserve seeds so they can be used in the next season.
• We train them preservation techniques so they can continue consuming them post-harvest.
• We train in marketing and savings to increase their economic security.
• Nutrition experts train the participants in the nutritional benefits of the vegetables the farmers grow.
• We emphasize the need to consume a variety of foods for maximum nutritional benefit.
• We train them how to prepare recipes that enhance taste and preserve nutrition.
• We train farmers saving and loaning methods to increase their ability to buy other foods and household necessities.
