What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Digital Literacy
This class is for refugees and asylum seekers with little or no computer experience to learn essential skills including keyboarding, research, software and hardware, resume creation, and email which prepare for employment and to integrate into their host country by accessing resources online. It is a5 week and 30 hour program.
This course is taught 100% online.
English as a Second Language
We use English learning to prepare for living in a multicultural world. Participants learn English, math, science, and reasoning through language arts. It is a 42 week program.
This class is 100% online and taught in Spanish & English.
Vida Sin Fronteras
One Digital World is partnering with Human Rights First for this innovative social program. Vida sin Fronteras will provide yearlong educational, psychosocial, and basic-needs support to asylum-seeking children, TAYs (transitional-age youths aged 18-24 years), and their families in Los Angeles, California.
Remote Legal Clinics
We partnered with Formally, a digital startup that streamlines and simplifies the legal process for asylum seekers and their representatives. The shelters we partner with in Tijuana can now use our computer labs to bring asylum seekers and pro-bono lawyers together, virtually. We are actively seeking partnerships with legal organizations interested in representing asylum seekers and conducting informational workshops on the asylum process.
Asylum Seeker Health Services Project
The Asylum Seeker Health Services Project is a collaboration between the California Department of Public Health Offices of Refugee Health, Binational Border Health, the San Diego County Department of Public Health and Family Health Centers of San Diego. One Digital World is proud to assist the project by facilitating virtual focus groups with asylum seekers across the border, contributing to research on the many challenges asylum seekers face when accessing adequate health services. Health care services are now being offered at Family Health Centers of San Diego.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We recognize the privilege inherent in U.S. and European passports, and we believe that no one should be denied the opportunity to travel, learn, or better their lives because of their national origin, race, religion, or political affiliation. We believe it is our duty to “welcome the stranger” and pay forward the hospitality we have received from others abroad. We do this by empowering refugees and asylum seekers worldwide by using innovative technology to connect them with resources essential to their integration and self reliance.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Partner with a variety of foundations to increase equality and education for refugees and asylum seekers. One Digital World connects refugees worldwide with education that is essential to their integration. We do that by building computer labs in refugee camps and shelters where we provide employable skills training, certifications, and a virtual support network. By gaining computer and internet literacy, conversational English and secondary education students are empowered to join the workforce and be self-sufficient, in a new country and culture upon resettlement.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have partnered with other organizations to provide programs that will reach our key focus on health, education, employment, and legal support.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
75% of participants reached basic or above basic in communication skills, which includes internet usage, email communications, and communicating through social media; 88% of participants reached basic or above basic in problem-solving skills which includes typing skills and operating computers, and 25% reached basic or above basic in software skills, which includes resume building, searching employments online and cloud storage.
