What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Horsemanship and Instruction
The Westernaires core program provides instruction on:
- basic care and management of horses
- safety principles when working with and around horses
- riding techniques in the western style
- choreographed riding as part of a drill team
Historic Preservation
Riders, families, school groups and guests have access to an extensive collection of historical artifacts displayed in the organization's Orrin C. Curtiss Westernaire Museum of Western and Riding History.
Established in 1959 with Mr. E.E. Wyland's private collection of western artifacts, the museum has since grown to include exhibits on horse anatomy, Buffalo Soldiers, the Sand Creek Massacre, a special section on the Mexican and Spanish influence and traditions, and a tribute to Buffalo Bill Cody.
The museum is open every Saturday from 10 till 2 for the public to come and visit (free of charge).
Carefully preserved historic rolling stock, such as a stagecoach, fire wagon, and covered wagon, are included in our live performances to further reinforce the riders' and audience's connection to their heritage.
Appreciation of western heritage is woven into each of the overall show programs and into individual teams through the use of costumes, music, specialty skills and traditions.
Community Outreach
Through our performances, parades and school group visits, Westernaires riders entertain and educate the
public - young and old - in small towns and big cities.
Each performance is customized to the specific audience and the community at large.
We also offer in-house museum and riding programs for school groups.
