Mission

To rescue captive-bred, displaced, unwanted, and non-releasable wild canids; to provide each rescue with permanent, safe sanctuary and lifelong care addressing physical, mental, and emotional health and wellness through species-specific nutrition, medical support, enrichment, and animal companionship, when applicable; and to educate the public about the plight of our rescued wild canids while providing species-specific information, focusing especially on wolfdogs, how to tell the difference between a wolf, a wolfdog, and a domestic dog, and about the ethical care and treatment of domestic and wild animals alike.

Standard Tour

The Standard Tour is an on-site educational opportunity to see and learn more about the several different canid species for which Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary provides daily care. The Standard Tour is guided, open to all age groups, and it typically runs between 45 minutes and an hour.

Topics covered during the Standard Tour: brief history and information about Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary as an organization and its mission, goals, and vision; species-specific facts, such as average lifespan in captivity versus the wild, feeding types, social dynamics and hierarchy, physical traits for identification, and behavioral tendencies; individual animal histories, personalities, and social dynamics between companions; and the definition, identification tools, and specialized care information regarding wolfdogs.

The Feeding Tour is an on-site educational opportunity to see and learn about species-specific diets and nutrition, feeding methods used, and to watch them chow down! The Feeding Tour is guided, open to all age groups, and it typically runs between 45 minutes and an hour. The experience is also hands-on, allowing participants to assist feed some of the animals under the guidance of a trained WSWS Team member.

Topics covered during the Feeding Tour: species-specific diets and nutrition; definition and identification of feeding types (i.e., carnivorous, omnivorous); common meal distribution methods utilized in the animal care industry; individual rescue meal information and food preferences; resource data and food production and preparation of meals and food-based enrichment at WSWS; and comparative information regarding species-specific behavior as it pertains to eating (i.e., hunting, scavenging) for the animals in captivity versus in the wild.
