Mission

We believe there is a solution to homelessness. It isn't just in houses, but rather in the people we serve. In order to overcome homelessness, we need to acknowledge the internal scars that each person struggling with housing insecurity needs help healing his/her/their relationship with the concept of "Home." So many disadvantaged persons never experienced a healthy home environment, therefore placing them at a disadvantage. By creating a healthy home environment, we are also able to provide financial education, life skills, and opportunities to the communities we serve. Working together we can change the conversation around housing and homelessness as well as end homelessness once and for all.

What we aim to solve

Everyday, thousands of young people become homeless. 1 in 10 young adults will experience a period of homelessness each year. Thats over 3.5 million in the U.S. As a result of family rejection, discrimination, criminalization and a host of other factors, LGBTQ+ youth represent as much as 40% of the homeless youth population. Of that population, studies indicate that as many as 60% are likely to attempt suicide. At Sherlock's Homes Foundation, we provide housing for vulnerable populations, specializing in the needs of homeless LGBTQ+ young adults. Our aim is to use real estate a the primary vehicle for social change, ending housing insecurity and empowering our most disadvantaged communities.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

When people experience homelessness, their quality of life greatly diminishes. By providing housing first to vulnerable individuals including LGBTQ+ youth and young adults in need, our organization is able to mitigate many of the harms associated with housing insecurity. Our program also increases and benefits the quality of life of LGBTQ+ youth by providing housing that is open and affirming. Through housing initiatives, we provide a loving and accepting environment in which LGBTQ+ youth can receive the practical life skills and self-confidence necessary to navigate the world as independent, resilient adults. Sherlocks Homes also operates as one of very few LGBTQ+ housing options for LGBTQ+ individuals in the state of North Carolina. It undoubtedly increases the quality of life of LGBTQ+ individuals and their communities to have representation at all levels of society and to display a working model for overcoming adversity.

We use real estate as the vehicle for social change. Using our high-level real estate expertise, we help social causes secure temporary and long-term housing solutions for their community-based missions while providing investors with a healthy return that is not only measured in dollars, but in the impact our housing creates and lives that are saved in our homes.

Our strategies include:

01 Home Expansion
Looking ahead, we are optimizing our real estate model and targeting new homes in North Carolina, Florida and beyond.

02 New Service Programs
We are collaborating with communities and service providers to ensure the residents in our homes have access to the inclusive and supportive services they need, including financial coaching, employment assistance and life skills training.

03 Fundraising
We are implementing a combination of fundraising strategies including events, corporate and community partnerships, grant writing, merchandise sales, and social media campaigns designed to leverage our strengths and maximize our impact in service to our mission.

04 Outreach
We are passionate about the communities we serve and through our outreach efforts, we are raising awareness about homelessness, connecting with influencers and our most vulnerable populations, providing resources, and advocating for change.

We use real estate as the vehicle for social change. Using our high-level real estate expertise, we help social causes secure temporary and long-term housing solutions for their community-based missions while providing investors with a healthy return that is not only measured in dollars, but in the impact our housing creates and lives that are saved in our homes.

Our Founder, Jacob Jennings, first experienced homelessness at age 16. Since that time, he'd been homeless four times. Opening his own home to homeless LGBTQ+ youth allowed him to stabilize his own life since he was now dedicated to saving others. Thus, he found his life's mission. He believes that homelessness is unique to the individual: it is a direct relationship that the person has with their fundamental experience of Home. That must be healed first. There is NOTHING more compelling than someone driven to succeed so that others can avoid similar hardships. Our Founder understands firsthand the value we bring, because he lived them. A loving home, essential services/food, opportunity for education and employment, are the basic necessities he was deprived of. Jacob works relentlessly to build this organization so that we may serve like communities.

Currently, Sherlock's Homes Foundation operates homes in Colorado Springs, CO, Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA. Looking ahead, we are optimizing our real estate model and targeting new homes in North Carolina, Florida and beyond.
