Helping Kidney Recipients by Assisting Kidney Donors
We assist kidney donors. By helping them, we are reducing the number of people waiting for a kidney transplant. Average wait time is 3 to 5 years!
New Life Kidney Donor Assistance helps living kidney donors cover their expenses during recovery. Kidney donors face escalating expenses following the surgery. State short term disability is not always enough to cover their monthly expenses. During the three months recovery time, kidney donors must be able to pay for rent, mortgage payment, car insurance, car loan, cable, wifi, phone, electric, gas, heat and hot water bills. Other organizations cover transportation, traveling expenses or provide minimal grants. This may not be enough to cover all of their monthly costs. In some cases, recovery time for kidney donors could take longer than the time it takes for the kidney recipient to recover.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our main goal is to reduce the number of people waiting for a kidney/organ donor.
There are approximately 104,234 men, women and children on the national transplant waiting list as of March 2023. About 88,901 on the list are waiting for kidney donors. Average wait time is 3 to 5 years!
Potential kidney donors are sometimes hesitant to donate their kidney because of the expected monthly living expenses during recovery. Full recovery takes time. It may take 6 to 12 weeks or longer.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Utilize social media platforms to share stories of kidney transplant recipients, kidney donors and individuals waiting for a transplant. Use engaging visuals to encourage people to share their own experiences or support the cause.
2. Engage with cultural and religious group to address specific concerns or beliefs that may discourage individuals from becoming organ donors.
3. Collaborate with leaders and influencers from various groups to spread awareness and promote organ donation within their communities.
4. Collaborate with journalists and media organizations to create compelling content that raises awareness about kidney donation.
5. Partner with businesses and corporations to support the cause through sponsorship or employee engagment programs. Encourage them to promote organ donation at their workplaces, organize fundraising events, or provide incentives for employees who register as organ donors.
6. Collaborate with other nonprofits working toward similar goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We recently added additional staff and board members who can assist in meeting our organization's goals.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?

- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
