Notes from the nonprofit

PBMTV launched our 24/7 online streaming network on August 1st, 2021, MTV’s 40th Anniversary. For our first 24 hours of broadcasting, we had 28 artists from seven different countries curate an incredible listening and viewing experience. We are just over one year into our broadcast network and we are launching a new PBMTV website you will all be excited about and proud to be a member. For the past year, we have brought close to 300 artists from over 30 different countries to PBMTV, and now we are growing in ways that will give our site lots of new functionality to experience. OnDemand Video Library - For all our original music artists, we will have an OnDemand Video Library where you will be able to create your own channel, very similar to YouTube. Your OnDemand Library Selections will all appear on your profile page for easy access. Live PBMTV Stream Keys - For our DJs and live performances, every artist will get their own PBMTV stream key which will broadcast to their profile page e

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Main Stream Artists operate as a for profit business. Independent Artists operate more like nonprofit businesses. Currently, there are many for profit businesses that artists use because they are the biggest platform with the functionality they are looking for. These sites include YouTube, Twitch, MixCloud, SoundCloud, Instagram, TikTok, and many more. There is no version of these sites that operate specifically for artists in a nonprofit capacity. The goal of PBMTV is to provide a No Cost alternative to these sites, and provide a platform that does not treat the artists on it like a product, but instead like a member of an organization built to assist in their success as an artist.

PBMTV has built a platform that will act as the nonprofit alternative to YouTube, with our OnDemand Library, Twitch, with our live stream capability and direct donation to the artists, LinkTree, with our ability to create a visually stunning page for the artist which will include links to all their social media and art sites. We are also going to be adding the ability for Artists to create their own merchandise pages to sell their own products to help assist in their artist journey. PBMTV hopes to become the hub of independent music and art from all over the world.

PBMTV was created in response to the COVID pandemic for the purpose of giving artists, who would normally be working events, a platform to create and perform. Research shows that during the pandemic, artists who lack an outlet from which to share their art are more likely to suffer from mental issues possibly leading to suicide - even more so than with financial hardship and loss of income. PBMTV’s main objective is as a Public Good, to provide a safe, ongoing, virtual environment for artists to create and perform in their creative comfort zone. Our model is adapted from Public Access Television, where anyone can pay to produce their own television show. We offer time slots at no cost in exchange for artistic content, as a way to support artists and honor the resources necessary to create and provide us with a constant source of content for years to come.

Because PBMTV was created with the artist in mind, we are building a platform that will attract an audience to help fund and fuel this network. Our second objective was to design an internet-based membership website that will allow artists to engage with their fans and each other. For this purpose, the model we created was adapted from the PBS and Twitch models. PBMTV became a membership-funded, non-profit organization. Our membership platform includes Live Website Chat and we are building a Video On-Demand Library with 100% original copyright-free content created by our member artists. Members will have access to Artist Pages with links to their websites and social media. For Non-Members, PBMTV will always be free to watch from our main page.

As a Non-Profit Network, our objective is to be a commercial-free platform. This will give our contributing artists an easier time securing sponsorships for their individual shows while allowing PBMTV the ability to focus on memberships. We will host quarterly Membership Pledge Drives every year with big name artists, promotional contests and updates to our website to consistently keep the content fresh. As we grow, there will be more artists who will want to contribute.

PBMTV has the objective to host as many independent artists as possible, and we are accomplishing that goal with a censorship-free platform. Artists with the most dynamic impact are usually the ones people need to see and hear. In many cases, these artists cannot show their art because of corporate censorship. As a non-profit, there are no advertisers to answer to, and our members are welcome to view any content. As PBMTV grows, we will remain true to our first objective, providing a Public Good as a safe, virtual environment for artists to create and perform in their own brave space.

PBMTV has built a brand new website that includes so much more functionality for artists.

OnDemand Video Library - For all our original music artists, we will have an OnDemand Video Library where they will be able to create their own channel, very similar to YouTube. OnDemand Library Selections will all appear on their profile page for easy access.
Live PBMTV Stream Keys - For our DJs and live performances, every artist will get their own PBMTV stream key which will broadcast to their profile page every time they go live, very similar to Twitch.
Recordings Of Live Streams - All our Live Streaming content that goes through the PBMTV server will get an unedited copy of that video for their own personal use. 100% Original Content will be added to the OnDemand Library.
ASCAP and BMI Broadcast Music License - Our network is covered by both the ASCAP and BMI Music Licenses, which means all content leaving our server and IP are also covered.
Restream Option - Joining our network does not mean artists need to leave your current platforms. We have the ability to stream PBMTV Stream Keys to any site with current stream keys. This will embed the PBMTV logo into current streams and cover them by our license.
PBMTV Event Calendar - Every artist will have the opportunity to enter all their events into an online calendar that will be the largest events calendar with the most diversity in the world.
Edit Profile Page - Up until now, we have entered each of the artist profiles on our own. With the new website, they will be able to create their own profile page and edit it when they like.
Social Media Links - Our artists will be able to enter all their social media links to their profile page. This can include links to event pages for ticket sales, or personal artist website.
DONATIONS DIRECT TO YOUR FAVORITE WALLET APP - PBMTV is a network built for and curated by artists on our roster. This means that we are so excited for each of our artist members to be a part of this growing network, that they get 100% of donations from fans.

Other projects:

Live Streaming Festival Coverage - PBMTV is partnering with a number of festivals so that we may record their stages for the growing PBMTV Library. With enough festival partners, we can approach satellite internet providers for a sponsorship to help provide live coverage of the events.
Professional Music Licensing - PBMTV will be partnering with a Music Licensing Firm to provide an avenue to getting PBMTV Member Artists music licensed and offered to film and TV.
PBMTV Mobile App - PBMTV is a network focused completely on video production of artists. Many of our viewers would like to enjoy music without the additional bandwidth for video. The PBMTV Mobile App will allow our members to listen to PBMTV without the video bandwidth.
ARTIST MERCH PAGES! - When possible, PBMTV will be purchasing a Shopify and Printify Business Account. This will give all our artists the ability to create their own merch on their Profile Page

PBMTV started as the Be Well Festival launching our 12 hour a day 7 day a week broadcast with a 12 hour replay each day on June 1st 2020. Our main goal was to provide a single channel where artists with their own channels on Twitch and YouTube with maybe 10 viewers each show, to come and enjoy having as many as 100 times that amount of viewers. As this project expanded, we realized the For Profit model we had build for fun was going to be a much better organization structure if it were a Non-Profit. Over the next few months, we laid the foundation to launch Public Broadcasting Music Television. The Be Well Festival ended on December 31st 2020 and 11:59pm. PBMTV launched our new site PBMTV.org on January 1st 2021. We continue to broadcast our live weekly shows as well as occasional events.

On August 1st 2021, we launched our 24/7 online streaming network and platform. At that point, we had about 60 artists from about 8 different countries. Just over one year later, We have over 300 artists from over 30 different countries, and we have viewers from over 150 different countries every month. We have around 60 hours of live content per week, and many weekly and monthly recorded shows. We have received about 4 different grants, and were invited to submit a grant proposal to the National Endowment for the Arts Grant. We are holding our first pledge drive over Thanksgiving Weekend 2022.
