Mission

PMHDC Southwest Medical Aid (PSMA) is dedicated to providing durable medical equipment and medical supplies free of charge to other qualified charitable organizations, for their clientele, who may otherwise go without. Our supplies come from excess inventory at hospitals, private practitioners and individuals. Donated medical supplies and equipment are primarily distributed through a network of nonprofits, hospitals, clinics and agencies in Arizona, as well as in Sonora, Mexico, with occasional shipments internationally. We provide over 100,000 pounds of medical equipment and supplies annually.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

PSMA envisions a more equitable and healthier society where underserved communities and individuals have access to medical supplies and equipment, thus our mission of finding medical surplus and distributing it free of charge to any in need. In CY2022, we took in over 160,000 lbs. of medical equipment and supplies and distributed over 130,000 lbs. Since our founding in 2004, we estimate we have rescued from landfills and dumps, and redistributed, over one million pounds of supplies and equipment throughout the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico.

Our very mission of rescuing hundreds of tons of medical supplies and equipment makes us green, recycle-friendly and promoting a more-sustainable community.

Business-wise:
* We have and continue to install motion-detection lights in offices, hallways and exterior locations;
* We have recycle bins throughout the building, for paper, plastic and aluminum cans;
* Our old computer equipment is donated to our partner organization We Care Tucson for refurbishment, redistribution or recycling;
* Donations that are not medical in nature are given to our partner organization Goodwill, while they bring us medical equipment and supplies;
* Equipment that requires a prescription, such as CPAP machines, which we cannot donate to the public, are distributed to sleep doctors, who can prescribe them and then loan them or give them to their patients who have no health insurance or are waiting for insurance to vest;

Our mission is supported by four FTE employees and dozens of volunteers, with a 4,070 sq. ft. distribution center.

Our business goals are implemented on a daily basis.

You can read above what we have already accomplished. What's next is to step up our capabilities with expanded facilities, staff and equipment to continue to find abundance and fulfill needs.
