Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We strive to research, preserve and teach the history of the greater Sedona area. This includes building community and a sense of local pride in our town which is now inhabited by people who, for the most part, came from someplace else and don't necessarily think of Sedona as "home". We also support local historic preservation efforts and projects. We now care for the area's two oldest historic cemeteries (1893 and 1918) and own and care for a 1906 Homestead House. Demand for programs and services grows but volunteers and funding sources don't grow at the same rate. A more robust and consistent revenue stream and a professional executive director are required.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Current goals include, restoration of the historic homestead house and enhancements and endowments for our historic cemeteries. Also incorporation of additional digital technology as learning tools in the Museum and more virtual program opportunities; building new educational outreach programs both off-site and on-site; completion of displays in new exhibit space with interpretative displays on local water significance, irrigation, etc.; design and production of an exhibit celebrating Sedona's tourism history; installation of a video theater at the Museum; build an endowment for the homestead house: build our general endowment; and increase volunteerism, among other operation, financial and educational goals.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Recruit new volunteers, Board members and organization members.
2. Train volunteers and staff on technology, and/or recruit those with the skills we need.
3. Partner with local and state-wide organizations on programs and for funding sources.
4. Create new community outreach and program opportunities.
5. Build a community of giving to support goals both short-term and long-term.
6. Museum and event/program attendance is recovering from COVID-19.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
1. Our Board, volunteers and limited part-time staffers are dedicated beyond the minimal requirements of involvement
2. We have a 3 year operating reserve and savings to seed projects and take advantage of special opportunities as they might arise
3. We have strengthened relationship with the City, our landlord, who is taking more "ownership" of our success
4. Membership is stable
5. Museum Gift Shop is growing in net revenues
6. Have strengthened relationship with the City through an appointed liaison from City Council to our Board
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
1. December 2021 opening of water exhibit.
2. Hiring of a consultant for Planned Giving Board training and involvement in endowment building.
3. Publishing 13th book on local history.
4. Procured partial funding for re-do of CORE exhibits that are upwards of 20 years old.
5. Initiated virtual programs available on Youtube tour and touch screen technologies incorporated into exhibits transitioned audio tour to cell phone platform.
6. Created new Arts Legacy permanent exhibit and procured art donations.
7. Created 2 new partnerships, 1) with local Library, an interactive display in the Youth Library, and 2) with City of Sedona for communication and future support.
