Sharing Excess

At Sharing Excess, we're using surplus to solve scarcity.

Philadelphia, PA   |  http://www.sharingexcess.com

Mission

Sharing Excess (SE) is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that uses surplus food as a solution to scarcity. While over 40 million people in the US face food insecurity, nearly 40% of the nation's food supply is going to waste. Our mission is to bridge the gap between excess and scarcity by partnering with grocery stores, wholesalers, and farmers to deliver surplus food to a network of nonprofits, food banks, and community organizations that alleviate local food insecurity.

SE creates partnerships with high volume food businesses to glean and rescue surplus food to deliver it to communities in need with the help of local food banks, our box trucks, and third-party freight logistics.

We provide logistical support nationwide food partners looking to repurpose their surplus food. By arranging freight-size pickups and deliveries we are able to get food redistributed anywhere across the USA and help avoid wasteful overhead.

Utilizing our innovative, open-source mobile app we streamline the food rescue process and make it easy for admins, volunteers, and paid drivers to deliver excess, measure donations, and gather data for impact analysis.

Our work is powered by the community. Together with local colleges, universities, organizations, and compassionate individuals, we conduct programming that brings people together to get food surplus where it's needed most.
