Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The problem is that Lucas County cemeteries have miscellaneous problems for visitors. Some , but not all, issues are: 1. Missing or inaccurate burial records (or burial lists not easily obtained to allow searches) 2. Missing or inaccurate detail maps down to the lot or grave# detail (or not easily obtained to allow searches at the cemetery visit) 3. Missing cemetery archival records (or records not digitized and backed up) 4. Difficulty in finding deceased & buried veterans on Memorial Day and on Veterans Day. 5. A lack of an attraction next to Toledo's Forest Cemetery (e.g. if it had a nature preserve and nature trail next to it, it would attract more visitors and educate the area youth.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Making burial records accessible
Scanning cemetery records, obtaining sexton's lists, obtaining and making cemetery maps. Putting these documents on-line for all cemetery visitors to this region to find their ancestor's burial site.
Make Memorial Day Flag Placing Guidebooks
Finding veterans in cemeteries is difficult for volunteers to place flags on Memorial Day. But, if each charity group had a guidebook that had a detailed maop of the cemetery and the name and burial plot of the veteran, then placing the flags is not only esier, but more importantly , fewer veterans are forgotten.
Our ultimate goal is to find every non-living veteran in Lucas county, and to make it easy for anyone to find that burial gravesite.
Restore the Toledo Great Black Swamp Nature Preserve
Make a nature trail that runs through the Toledo owned wetland that starts at the NE border of Forest Cemetery . Clean all of the stream and banks of garbage. Remove the invasive plants of Bush Honeysuckle and Phragmites Reed. The preserve would help the environment and be an asset to the nearby residential neighborhood and have educational displays to educate the youth about the history of the region.
